That's exactly what they did too. Nothing but z7 clones. Same with Hoyt too though. Added a shorter carbon bow, and the CRX series is basically the same as the Maxxis. Have we seen the best that everyone has to offer?
I agree with L2D, Matthews seems to always re-clone a bow that was successful the previous year and call it revolutionary. I shot the Z7 last year and while I believe it may be one of the nicest shooting bows they've produced in recent years, they didn't need to make 4 more just like it with slightly different specs or throw an old cam system on one of them.
I'm anxiously awaiting the 2011 models from Bowtech. This year, I do believe I may bite the bullet and buy a new bow, depending on what they release. Since getting married and having kids, I have to limit myself to a 2-3 year cycle on bows. Which isn't all that bad considering most of the time, it takes 3 years for these companies to come up with something "groundbreaking" enough to warrant upgrading. The Destroyer had me tempted last year, but I wanted to wait to see if there were any bugs and let Bowtech work them out in the following years release. Since they're not releasing their flagship bows until ATA, I am praying that they are building them like crazy now to keep up with demand. For the last few years, they released as normal in early November and in many cases were not be able to fill orders until sometime in February or March because they were way behind on manufacturing.
Mathews was smart to produce several z7 bows. Why? because it was one of the best shooting bows last year. Now guys who wanted one just a little shoter, longer, etc. can have what they want. Mathews has been around a long time for a reason. Until you actually shoot a "new model" bow you can't say it's the same as last year. Most manufacturers tweak something, even very little, to add to performance year after year. Draws get smoother, IBO goes up, bow's get quieter.
i did like the way the z7 shot.... and the destroyer just as much.. so in the end, i was like "hmm i really really like the way that destroyer shoots, and that z7 is close to that...but jeesh thats so ugly"
i shoot a Switchback, have the Z7, but nothing on it. im glad they came out with the Z9!!!!! but just wish they would've let folks know a longer draw was coming out. gonna try and replace the cam on the Z7 with the Z9 cam.... we'll see back to your countdown question... i dont know, guess it doesnt matter much to me as long as they keep making a sweet bow!
