That was one of the greatest plays in the history of baseball. I LOVED watching Holliday miss that ball and it smack him damn near in the nuts, on the fly. You know that had to hurt, but he was playing it off like it was no big thing. I really hope the Cards get swept in the NLDS, then you can feel some of our pain for once!
They are done. I'm probably in the minority of Cards fans, but I'd rather see a team not make the playoffs, than make it and get their ass handed to them. Walk Pujols and watch the others strikeout...that should be the game plan for every NL team next year.
I agree and I'm probably the biggest Cards fan on here. I'm betting they get pounded on Saturday. No one has had their head in the game. Pujols couldn't hit a water melon right now and Holliday not only drops balls, but strikes out looking at three pitches with the bases loaded. They way they played the last three weeks of the season, I kinda figured this would be the outcome.
I am a huge Cards fan and couldn't agree more. I mean you can't expect to make it to the next round when you strand 99% of your runners on base cuz the hitting has gone down the crapper. You can't win ball games by not getting those runners in. Pitching was pretty solid both games. I mean you can't ask for a pitcher to only give up one run in 8 innings, and then blow it for him like that. Pretty pathetic.
That game (nor the series) can fall solely on Holliday's shoulders. True he definantly sucked it up on that fly ball. He catches that ball 99.9% of the time, but he chocked it up bad then. However, Franklin had THREE chances after that to get ONE out to win, and then another chance to leave with the game tied. Rasmus has to know better to make the first out at third base, and just keep his butt on second (rookie mistake or not he's a big leaguer now playing in the playoffs, you just can't have that). And finally going into Game 3 the cards were 3 for 21 with runners in scoring position....that's not getting it done regardless of what you play like on defense, or how good your pitching is. I hope Holliday resigns (4-6 years for 20 mil. is what I have heard they will offer him), and I hope LaRussa and Duncan want to come back for another try at it. This team limped into the playoffs, and anyone watching them the few weeks leading up to it had to have a bad feeling about how they would perform. This series truly made me feel what it must be like to be a Cubs fan.
