A friend of mine has a mathews switchback that he's willing to sell to me. Now I'm A complete novice but iv done some research. This bow was last made in 2008 so the youngest it could be is 6 years old. It has everything on it except a sight and I'm not sure if he's offering a case with it.

The questing id like answered is how much is it worth? I think he wants somewhere around $500 for it I was thinking between $350-400

You could get a new bow for around 500.

No way I would pay 500. Or 400 for that matter.

Look on ebay. Several similar bows for sale. The price looks to be in the ball-park. Keep in mind, that a similar quality bow new is close to double that without accessories. I still shoot an original Switchback and think it is one of the best bows that they made. I was surprised to see how they have held their value, but the market still looks strong for them. Tell him $450 and do it. Good luck.

350 for a bare switchback is a good price depending on how good the strings are on it. For an xt with a sight and rest you could be looking around 500 but not that.

So what your saying "slugger" is that he's selling me this regular switchback for the price of a switchback xt. Is there a big difference between the two?

I bought a regular switchback back in 05 new and just sold mine about a year ago. Believe I sold it bare bow but it did have a new set of winners choice on it and it came with 2 cams (the 27.5" cam that I ended up switching to and the 29" cam that was initially on it).. Thinking I sold it for $425 in fairly short order - it was in awesome shape....

I loved my Switchback. I sold it 2 years ago for $500, fully loaded, with 10 Gold Tip Pro Hunters.

Great bow, and I actually preferred the original over the XT.

I see the XT as having a higher resale value in the current market. Its been a while since I compared the 2 but I chose the XT over the reguler version. Your probably better off shooting some different bows and see what feels good. You could probably get a brand new bow for under 500 all setup and shoot better for you then the switchback. Try some out.

well my friends bow didn't work out, he wanted to keep it. But he did let me shoot his Mathews switchback, switchback xt and his drenaline. I don't know what o look for when shooting but they all felt comfortable. I ended up siding with the switchback XT and bought one on eBay for 450 fully loaded. I think I did good considering this will be my first bow. Thanks for all the great info everyone! I will be sure to use this forum as I move forward in this hobby.

Congrats on the purchase. I have yet to upgrade to a new bow over the past 5 years cause my switchback XT works fine and kills deer like any other bow.
