i went to a local proshop and looked at the monster 7 and the z7 just got to look over and draw back , shop was busy so i will go back and test fire, that monster 7 looks sharp, a little on the heavy side 4.35 lbs the limbs are thin and have quite a arc to them, heavy man type draw with 80 percent letoff
which caused a jump when i reached the valley,

i see in there cat the 7 and the xlr8 model are available in 65 percent also does anyone know if that is a special order cam or just a adjustment on the same cam. my currant bow is a mathews ultramax that i bought new and bought the 65 percent option cam and had it changed over and love the bow.

Also one other thing the catalog shows the axles as quick change ?? why would a bow need quick change axles??

not bashing here love the bow and cant wait to shoot it.
also i am going to drive in to another area and check out the bow tech 350 this weekend .

Unless you drew both at your draw length you really have No idea what they will feel like. All draws will feel rougher if they are longer than your normal draw.

If you shoot a 27" draw you will have to set the Monster at 26.5" or maybe even 26"

I have shot both the Monster and the Destroyer 350 setup at my draw length quite extensively. I have shot the Monster more than the D350, but things I did Not like about the Monster were, Hard Draw, Too Heavy, Valley was too short, and the draw length was way too long adjusted to what Mathews stated the draw length should be. You will find that adjusted to an actual AMO Draw length the Monster will lose a lot of races with others speed bows on the market. Matter of fact it was slower than my 82nd Airborne.

The Destroyer had none of those problems.

It was definitely slower than mine. Shooting the exact same arrow through the same chrono. I did adjust draw lengths to be the same.

It's Not my opinion, just what I saw on the chrono. The owner of the Monster saw it also.

    Ya know.....

The more "you guys" stick your necks in places they have NO BUSINESS....the more I loathe everything you're associated with.

    End of rant.

Jeff, I have tuned and setup 2 Monsters this year. I spent almost 2 weeks shooting one of them everyday. As always though I do make an effort to shoot all the top Bows every year. I think that gives me the right to post my opinion.

How much have you shot the Destroyer? I see you posting on a lot of those threads, Mr. Trad ;-)

Honestly, I could care less what you loathe or.................................................................

    Shoot :-)

I've shot each of them, with the caveat being NEITHER is greasing my pocket and affecting my unbiased judgement.

Seriously......you guys should learn that "less is more". Your product "should" be able to stand on its' own accord. It really IS a great product.

YOU GUYS are what's making it smell. And. it's starting to REALLY smell.

My opinion is as unbiased as yours if not more so. I Will always shoot what I Like the Best if that happens to be something other than BowTech then it will be.

The Best 3 Bows I shot last year were the BowTech Captain, Hoyt Alphamax 35, and the PSE BowMadness. I can purchase any of these Bows at a reduced price, so $$ is Not a factor. How many shots did you run through the Monster? The Destroyer?

Careful what you Loathe Mr. Trad ;-)

    Dan:

You keep referencing that I'm a trad. shooter. Which does nothing but substantiate my unbiased opinions.

Hell I'm not even THAT UNbiased! I've owned FIVE bowtech bows.....and still own one. The product produced by the company is TOP NOTCH!

When a Yukon driver tells the GM folks their practices are pissin' current and potential Yukon drivers off.......ya think the powers that be at GM ought to listen?

I gotta tell ya.......You're about as good for Bowtech as Tiger is for Nike, about now.

I don't loathe and, if truth be told, would probably be called a bowtech fanboy ( I just like their bows) but it does get rather tiresome to look in a thread about another Manufacturer's model and constantly read how the current bowtech model (destroyer right now) is always so much better. Same thing happened when the general came out but then it started blowing up LOL. At that point we finally got to read about other bows without the inevitable bowtech comparison. It was kind of nice.

I am already tired of hearing about the destroyer (LOL I should stop reading about it on multiple forums, my bad). When they get that cam system on a sentinel then maybe I'll add a new bow to my group.

Jeff, I'd rather take the opinion of someone who has drove a Ford, Chevy, & a Dodge across a couple of states than I would to listen to someone who drove them around the Block.

Like I said BowTech does Not pay any of my Bills and I am more than capable of owning any bow I want. I will shoot what's best for me, whether you like it or Not. :-)

If I have shot Bows personally I will give my opinion. That's my right! As far as the Destroyer is concerned I've shot enough bows to know this Bow will sell itself in a Big way, but I won't stand by and let anyone aimlessly piss on it either.

If I wanted to buy a Race car I would hardly ask the Amish their opinion since they drive a Horse & buggy.

That's your (and the recent BT mentality) problem, Dan. NO ONE IS pissing on BT in this thread.

The guy who drives the "rest"....and is still employed (or gets his pockets lined) by GM...isn't likely to suggest to a potential customer to "buy the Expedition", now......is he?

"Whether I like it or not"???????? I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU SHOOT!.....lol

Just don't think it's not blaringly obvious (your bias). It insults our collective intelligence.

Just shows One thing Jeff! You don't even know but have such a strong opinion of me.

I will always shoot the Bow that is best for ME! and defend any company that I feel is needlessly taking abuse.

You have your opinion! and I have mine! ;-)

Do you REALLY expect anyone to believe that would include ANYTHING other than a Bowtech......as long as they're giving you 2-3 bows a year......and allowing you to buy up to 10 at below cost?

I mean....I was born at night. But it wasn't LAST night.

X2, I remember a certain website where I got into a serious verbal battle due to a "defect" in limbs on a specific model and was told it was a fluke and wasn't serious at all. I recall the issue really heating up and never getting an apology from Dan when the company recalled the same bows he told us were safe with problems being over-stated. I have since learned to be careful of some people's opinions;)

Personally, I am assuming you are talking about the orginal Monster, the 6 inch brace ht model. I wasn't a fan, but I am not a fan of any bow I've shot with a 6 inch brace. I haven't gotten the chance to shoot the 2010 Monster 7, but on specs alone, I would expect it to be more in MY ballpark. (7 inch brace, 33 ATA, 340 plus speed) Have fun putting your Monster through the paces and then make your decision, I'd say you made out good in the trade. Of all bows out there, a Mathews will fetch the most in the used bow classifieds, based on name and following alone. Good luck.

I wasn't a fan of the Monster with the 6" brace height either, I would easily go Bowtech over the Monster and we all know how much I love my Hoyts;) In the end though it is what shoots and feels best.

You know me, we've shot together. I am a traditional shooter now for 45 +- years so choice of tackle doesn't impress me wheels or trad . This is only my second compound bow I've ever owned, I have 16 trad bows. I just started shooting a compound 2 years ago and that's only because the management group I belong to doesn't allow traditional tackle, otherwise I still wouldn't have one.
Maybe I missed something in the 3 pages of this thread but where is all the venom coming from? I only asked about the Mathews Monster I got and wanted a consensus of whether I got a good bow or a really good bow. In my trading to get this bow I wasn't offered other choices. I have come to find out in the short time of having a compound that there basicly are 3-4 camps. Mathews guys, Hoyt guys, Bowtech guy and PSE guys. There are of course those that shoot Darton, Parker, Bear, etc, etc.

I only want to know about the Monster and I know nothing of other Mathews bows. I have shot the Hoyt Alfamax and Turbomax and they slightly felt better to me and we all know bows are personal likes and feel.

VA going from a traditional bow to a speed bow is interesting to me. I bet the short valley some have talk about here fits your shooting "feel" Can you comment on what the differences are?
