Do you have one, would you like to have one, would you like to shoot one, do you have an opinion on them? I just got one on a trade. Got the bow with: drop rest, quiver, sight, release, 3 arrows, w/broadheads and hard case. The cost was a Mossberg shotgun and a SW .357. Total appox cost $800.00. I like it now that it is set up for me but I still think I would rather have a Hoyt. I'll shoot this for awhile then think about selling it, maybe, maybe not. BTW, my pro shop chrono'd it. 400gr arrow @ 62#, 290+-. I've seen 2 other you tube videos and the highest speed was around 308fps. I understand the variables involved in chrono speeds.
I am going to shoot one today actually. They are $100 off at a local shop and they are on my list of 5 to check out. I haven't shot one though so other than saying I want to give it a try I am of no use. Which brace height do you have and why would you rather a Hoyt? Any specific Hoyt?
i love mathews but i've had a couple guys tell me that the monster is why they stopped buying mathews.. they felt that mcpherson sorta "sold out" by going with the dual... Me? i could care less about the design.. if it shoots straight, is quiet, and reasonably fast, i'd take it... so if it fits you, mathews aint a bad bow to carry around
I own a Monster. I love it, a harsh draw but I am crazy accurate with it. I have the 60 lb bow at 55# 415 gr arrow at 274 fps.
BTW with a harsh draw comes speed. Whats up with the because of the Monster I am done with Mathews. Becuase Ford builds the focus doesnt mean im going to not buy a F150.
I like the Hoyt Turbo Hawk and Alpha Max. I thought they drew more smooth and are much lighter. They just felt better in my hands. If I could have made a trade yesterday at the proshop I would've come home with a Hoyt. The shop isn't a Mathews dealer and can't get mods to be able to sell to a perspective buyer if changes had to be made.
im with you teejay... my buddies think that mcpherson stole the pse design and went away from their flagship solo cams.. thus selling out.. from what i hear, mcpherson is a guy that will bend over backwards for you.. my main reason for buying mathews, call me dumb, is what he stands for besides quality.. hes an outspoken Christian and it takes a heck of a guy to let the world know that, especially when he's on top of a greatly successful company... much respect for him.. Bow bender, isnt that hawk line from hoyt SUPER loud? my buddy has a power hawk i think.. and he might as well be shootin a shotgun... man i couldnt believe it...
The Turbo Hawk that I shot was very quiet and it wasn't even set up with anything but a whisker biscuit for tset shooting. Astabilizer and such would only make it better.

since we are on the subject of the monster. i am just curious if anyone has seen any of the "pro staff" or "pro hunters" on the tv shows using this bow when filming a hunt. so far i havent seen any hunting show with a hunter using a mathews monster. anyone else beg to differ? i am just curious thats all.
Well, I just got back from shooting a Monster with the intention of buying it, and I do not own one. It shot fast but I just did not like the draw at all. At the end of the draw cycle it kept "jumping" as the poundage dropped off like a rock. Problem with that is how do I draw smoothly if an animal is looking my way. I mean, it was a serious jump. Now, the Reezen 6.5 and the Z7 were both pretty nice. Honestly, to me they felt nearly identical, but take into account that both of those were at 29" and I shoot 27" so it was a bit awkward for me. For 10 fps, I would buy one of those instead and gain the smooth draw, but that is just me.
The Monster felt top-heavy to me when I shot it. I didn't like the draw either, it felt like my Ultra 2 and the arrow jumps off the rest if you draw it back too fast. Thats why I bought a Switchback XT, that bow is smooth and quiet. If I were gonna buy a new one I would go with the Z7.
Actually if you look into it, that Mathews Monster was a co-conspirator creation, and credit was given. As for the Turbohawk, the couple I've shot were both nice and quiet, I've even venture to say quieter than my Katera XL, but not quite as quiet as my Trykon XL. That being said, I'm a Hoyt fan, no doubt, but I've not shoot too many bows that I thought were "LOUD" unless there was something wrong with them. Jim, That Monster has a horrible draw, I'm not surprised at all that you didn't buy it, as it's not at all a SMOOTH transition, especially if you're used to a smooth draw. I've heard good things about the Z7, but not shot one yet. Nor did I shoot the Reezen, but I did shoot a Monster a couple times at the local indoor range, and there was no way in hell I'd want to have shot it any more than a few times as it was HARSH!!!
I dont know... he stated that he had 80lb limbs on there and had the draw weight up there... maybe too light of arrows? I wouldnt consider myself a strong guy but i had a HECK of a time drawin this thing back. sexy lookin rig, but i couldnt believe that he'd like that loud of a unit
The draw was almost the same on the Destroyer 350 I shot today (I was rotating between the two) but the 350 transitioned better and I didn't get that jump. I am just not sold that either of those bows with those hard draws would be a good idea on a cold November morning (sounds of my shoulder popping out of socket ) I can't decide.
I shot a 70#'er, and was shooting about 425 grain arrows and it was fine, and the draw really wasn't bad at all especially when the guy said it was a little harsh, I expected it to be a little harsh, but it was actually pretty smooth I thought. Light arrows out of an 80# rigs certainly may have been part of the deal, but it would've had to have been a SPECIAL order Turbohawk, as Hoyt doesn't even offer it w/ 80# limbs.....
ya, wouldnt doubt that he was fillin me... my thoughts? if you cant kill a deer with 60lb limbs... youre prolly not gonna be any more accurate with 80s
didnt shoot the monster but did shoot a z7 and the new btech destroyer....i bought the z7 70# and impatiently waiting for it to arrive....i also shot the dr2 and it was ok....better then the destroyer....the destroyer just didnt feel good in my hand so i passed on it....sht one of the new hoyts and also didnt like how it felt in my hand....i liked the z7 over the dr2 and thats what i decided on.....
I shot the Monster and the Z7 at my local shop and liked them both, but to be perfectly honest...I prefer my BowMadness XS and my Bear Showdown when it comes to draw. My point is, what's comfortable to you may be harsh to me and vice versa. Good luck with it though, they are really nice bows.
