I was wondering if anybody good help me out in deciding what arrows I will be shooting this fall for my new Monster. My bow is set at 73lbs and I am looking at shooting Easton St Excels 400s tipped with 100 grain Muzzy Phantoms. For the fellow archers who are knowledgeable about arrow selection, would this be an adequate set-up for hunting whitetails and possibly elk?

I would suggest going to one of the easton web sites. Maybe a pro shop or something.

73 lbs out of a Monster?

Just screw a broadhead on the end of a log. :)

I didn't check a chart, but I believe 400's would be pretty light spined for 73#. Unless you have pretty short arrows.

I was thinking the same thing as John, it would seem that 340 or 300's would be a much better fit!

Your draw length is a critical part of the equation. I'm guessing the 400's aren't going to be stiff enough, unless you have a very short DL.

My draw length is 28.5, does anybody know what the minimum requirement for the weight of an arrow for the monster?

It should be 5 grains per pound of draw weight. For your 73 pounds that would equal 365 grains. But your bow will be a lot quieter and it would be safer if you shoot a heavier arrow.

I would definately use a heavier arrow for elk. They have a tough hide and the heavy arrow would penetrate much better.
