im looking to get a new bow after this season. im between a few bows. Mathews Monster, Hoyt Alphamaxx, Martin Onza 3, or PSE X-force. Does anyone have any of the bows or atleast know some positive or negatives about any of them. if there are other good dual cam bows i should look into let me know. Any input is good im kind of stuck between which to choose.
All personal opinion. Im a Hoyt guy because they just feel good in the hand, but I REALLY liked the Monster. It was just a little top heavy. You really need to shoot them all yourself, side by side if possible.
I shoot an xforce and love it however my Dad who is a mathews guy is not a fan of my pse... Its all about what bow feels right in your hand. Id def shoot them all if i were you, you wldnt buy a car without a test drive, right? My decision two yrs ago actually was between a pse and a forge.
I'm a Mathews guy, if you're not, your bow pertty much sucks. In reallity man, they're all good brands. Shoot each one and the right bow will pick you. I am a big fan of Mathews though. I have the z7x and absolutely love it. One thing I really like about Mathews is their customer service.
I personally wouldn't look into the Onza 3. I know specs wise that bow seems to be a dream, but I've seen several reviews on Youtube were not only did that bow not meet IBO standards, but it looked like a completely different bow in comparison to the one that was actually re-tested. I shot the Mathews Monster and I don't know if it was just the way the guy had it set up, but it was a heavy bow. Good draw cycle, it was quiet, and dead in your hand on the shot, but it was just a tad bit heavy for me personally. PSE is a toss up. Some guys love them; others say they will never shoot them. I don't think I'll ever go back to PSE after switching. The draw cycle to me is uncomfortable and they are too loud, but it's just my preference. If you're looking into a Hoyt, shoot a Carbon Element and an Alphaburner. Both are great bows. I know a guy shooting the Alphaburner on 28", 70#, shooting a 405 grain arrow. He's getting 295-305fps on the chronograph and getting 86ft/lbs of kinetic energy. And for a 6 inch brace height, that bow is accurate. Shoot everything you're interested in and go from there. Everyone has different preferences.
I know that Winchester wasn't on your list, but i wouldn't be a loyal customer without bringing it up! this past summer i was looking to upgrade and shot the new hoyt rampage xt, mathews z7, and the winchester quicksilver 31. All 3 are great bows, but i fell in love with the Winchester. at first i was a little iffy since it was their first stab at the archery industry, but i have never looked back on it. i think its at least worth checking into them.
As others have said, the only way you can choose a bow is to shoot them. Shoot each of the models side by side (a lot of bow shops will have all three for you to shoot). You'll pick the bow that's right for you after shooting them. None of them are wrong.
Shooting an 06 Hoyt and I likely won't change until I happen upon a free one (not holding my breath). New strings every other year and she's as good as new. Taken her to 9 states hunting so far, dropped her from treestands, used it as a crutch on stalks in tricky situation...I'm beginning to think the thing can't be harmed no matter what I try.
As most have said you have to try each one and it will choose you. I had to laugh though, someone said something about customer service! I've had my bow over 25 years and never needed it!
It sure is nice if you do need it though. Just like full coverage on a car. I pay it just in case hoping never to use it.
It is all what feels good in your hands to give you the confidence to make that great shot. Me personally I like the Bowtech Destroyer 350 in my hand!
Don't count bear out just yet. I guess their new bow is due out in October. Can't wait to see the Anarchy.
