Hey Guys, Like i said earlier this week, i shot the Insanity and Heli-M at French Creek Outfitters. I had things that I liked about both bows, and really had nothing negative about either bow just some aspects of the Insanity I liked better, and some aspects of the Heli-M I liked better, just as far as speed, draw cycle, vibration and all that sort of thing. I liked both bows equally in terms of shootability. For you all out there I have a couple of questions. 1.) I have a 27.5" Draw Length and Pull 65 Pounds. Because I have a shorter draw length, Would the insanity be better for me because it is a faster bow? I really like the idea of having a fast bow, just because of what I've heard from others about Kinetic Energy, Accuracy (being able to use one pin out to 30 yards), and just the power. 2.) Which bow is a better performer. What i mean by this, is if both bows were shot using one of those machines that pulls back the bow and is consistent for every pull, which bow would be more accurate. Which bow would be better for me is overall what I am asking. Forgiveness really doesn't matter to me much. Speed and Accuracy is what i care about most. Thanks for all your replies in advance.
IMO, the answer to your 2nd question would depend on the brace height and the riser. In terms of accuracy, I would say the higher performance of the two would belong to the Bowtech, but the more accuracy would belong to the Mathews. If it were up to me personally, I would pick the HeliM, but you could never go wrong with either bow.
Thanks for being the first to reply, what about the bowtech makes it higher performing if it's slightly less accurate?
If both bows were tuned well, then both bows would shoot equally well out of, say, a Hooter Shooter or another machine as far as accuracy goes. The Insanty is simply a speed bow. Dual cam, aggressive draw cycle - you've simply got to put more energy into the draw, which stores more energy in the limbs and allows more energy to be transferred to the arrow when you shoot it. That's what gives you more speed. If you're after speed, then pound for pound of draw weight the Insanity will give you more speed, but you've got to put more effort into it to achieve that. The bottom line is that the best bow for you is invariably going to be the bow that feels better to you. That's the single, most important factor in this decision and despite our own personal preferences, we can't help you with that one. No matter which one you end up with, you're going to have one heck of a bow.
Having shot both I picked the Helim. I wanted a light weight hunting bow with a smooth draw, and that was the helim. I liked the insanity but the draw cycle was more harsh for me and I do not want that in a hunting bow when it is cold outside and that buck of a life time walks by.....Blake
I would shoot the z7 Extreme I think it all boils down to which one shoots best for you and ultimately what you want in a bow. If weight was an issue due to long walks in then the Heli-m would be the better choice. If speed was the ultimate goal then maybe the Bowtech. To be honest though I would shoot a few more bows, especially the z7 Extreme.
Todays bow speeds are a lot faster than they use to be. Even the slow bows of today are faster than the faster bows of years back. I think alot of it comes down to what shoots better to you in your hand. What feels the best in your hand. That is something that nobody else can tell you. The only other angle to look at would be the bow brand's track record, the company's customer service. This is where you decide now. Good luck with your choice, season is getting closer.
Well there's a pretty good difference. Bowtech has hardcore limbs and binary cams, and I think Bowtech is dual cam. Mathews is solocam on the other hand, which would make Mathews just a tad bit slower, but smoother and maybe just a tad bit more accurate.
These two bows are very different animals. Most of the differences have already been stated. However, saying one bow is more accurate than another is like comparing Ford to Chevy. Both will shoot better than you can when properly tuned. The insanity draw cycle is definitely more aggressive than the Mathews bows. The Insanity will smoke Mathews in terms of speed. However, the Insanity is a 6" brace height bow compared the Helium at 7". One inch of brace height usually means somewhere around an additional 10fps. Combine that with a bit more aggressive cam and riser reflex and you can see where I'm going with this. If I had to choose between those two, I'd personally opt for the Mathews, only because of the low brace height on the Insanity. Both are very accurate and very quiet, but again, very different types of bows.
That's a great point. That's basically the same thing I was saying. A little more speed in the Bowtech, but a little smoother draw and forgivness in the Mathews. Same here.
Insanity Shot both bows. The Heli-M feels like it wants to jump out of your hand, Got my Insanity and I have been destroying every Matthews bow out there. Bowtech Insanity is a 6 inch brace height but shoots like a 7 and love it . Trust me You can't go wrong with it .
For me it came down to draw cycle and weight because either bow will have plenty of k.e. and the deer are not going to notice 25feet per second. If you plan on walking to your hunting ground the Helim's light weight is a big plus either bow will shoot more accurately than I can That easier draw cycle of mathews will come into play when it's 20deg and you have been sitting for 3 hours or after your 100th arrow of the day Either way your not going to go wrong
na if you have good form solid anchor i'd never even think about the helium... that said, you shot both and liked... i'd go insanity all the way!!!! and im a hoyt guy,,,lol had a z7 and also shot the bt and mat... i would go bt if it wasnt for the element!!!!!!!!!
ok, im going to weigh into this a little different here and suggest something else, however, here's my take on the OP's ? I havent shot the helim, yet i have constantly heard rave reviews about it from some very accomplished bowhunters here in Aus, to state it simply, they love it! Having said that, they arent to bothered about its 330fps ibo rating. I own a Bowtech Insanity cpx, i shoot 71/30. I love the bow, it has a rock solid wall which isnt obtained by lumpy limb stops and it has some creep at full draw which has helped me significantly in shooting well out to 90 yards as well as holding the draw for critters to step out. The bow is quiet, its draw is aggressive, it looks great imo, the octane strings are very good quality, its accurate and its got good speed. Id rather emphasize some of the down sides though to really get you thinking. The insanity is heavy and i came from a 4.2# bow previously and this feels heavier. That is annoying if you hike/hunt and it is the greatest downside imo. The bow at 30" sees the cables touch the pegs on the cams. Though it does no damage and effects the shot in no way. It wont matter to you any because your draw is smaller. The cables touch my wrist and i have slapped my arm on shots numerous times. Many times at the range i have adjusted my shooting and arm angle to avoid this but its a fact, i wear a guard or a sock over my arm everytime i shoot as a result. There IS a small amount of vibration at the shot. This was not a big deal to me and you get used to it no probs. There is concern as to the finish on the limbs peeling. I have small amounts of chips but hasnt been a bother and i havent tried to be too kind with my hunting buddy, my bow is my tool and i expect it to stand up to some hits. Having said all this, i love my bowtech insanity cpx! In relation to another suggestion for you, i was going to suggest taking a look at the apa mamba m6, it has a little more brace height, claims the same IBO, i cant find a bad review on this company or its bows and they claim the same weight as the helim!!! It has numerous other field features and its cheaper than both the helim and insanity cpx it will undoubtedly be my next bow, i encourage you to check it out, http://apaarchery.com/bows?product_id=50 Hope that helps, cheers Doz
Time to drop the DL a half inch or change how you grip the bow so that your forearm isnt rotated in.. (not saying the way you do it doesnt work, but can be change and avoid it) As for helim vs cpx, at 27.5 DL the brace should be a non issue. The draw on the helim is smooth than the cpx. The speed is a non issue for most woodland hunters. If you are shooting at long yardage, the flatter shooting cpx would be my choice. CPX finish issues scare me. $900+ for a bow that will look 3 years old inside of 3 months would pee me off. For the Mathews, my biggest negative is the grip. They arent as big as the used to be, but still very easy to apply torque to on the shot, specially if you tend to grip/grab the bow on the shot. Shoot em side by side if you can. Dont worry about where you are hitting. Every bow out there is accurate once you get some time with it. Pay more attention to how they each feel compared to the other. The one that is more comfy in your hands is the one you will shoot better.
Most of the folks said it right when they say you can't go wrong with either bow. I just got an Insanity CPX and I LOVE IT. But I also have a Mathews Z7 Xtreme Tactical which I refuse to part with. All the manufacturers today make great bows. So much so that now its super easy to see and feel what's good in the bows and it's more difficult to find the bad. Just my opinion.
