I'm starting to look at upgrading my bow and I'm thinking about either a Halon (30"ATA) or the Triax (28"ATA). I have shot the triax once and it is very quite. I need to try to shoot both much more. I currently shoot a bow with a brace height of 7" and a 31"ATA. I know both Mathews bows have a much shorter brace height. Any thoughts?

    What is your draw length?

I've owned and shot both extensively. They are both fantastic.

The string angle on the Halon 32 is a bit more forgiving on the 32 at my 30 3/8" draw, but to be honest I shoot them both about the same.

The Triax is definitely quieter and has less hand shock, but both are among the quietest bows I've shot.

If you are 29" or less, and hunt primarily in blinds or stands with shots under 30 yards, I'd choose the Triax for sure. If you are longer draw and shoot longer distances then I'd shoot the 32 and the Triax and decide which you prefer the feel of.

    Hope that helps!

I would shoot both and decide.

I'm 30 3/8" and mainly shooting from stands too. I really didn't expect to like the Triax as much as I do because I generally like longer bows. I prefer it though I think just based on the type of hunting I do and the shorter shots I'm normally taking.

I would shoot both as go from there. The Triax is so dead I ended up ordering one. I also bought in terms of resale value. I imagine the Halon 32 will be discounted after this year.

I currently shoot a 14 year old Hoyt. Wife suggested I get a new bow for father's day and I am thinking hard about it. My question is are the bows today actually that much different or that much better than what I have been shooting for 14 years? I am headed to the Mathews dealer in Omaha this afternoon....I think

Yes. They are quieter, faster, less hand shock, and have significantly better fit/finish. Get the dealer to let you shoot a few, I'm pretty sure you'll feel the same.

I did stop by the local shop and shot the Triax...there was nothing felt in my left hand when i dropped string. I just looked at the guy and said "wow" and he replied...I hear it all the time. Incredible.

I bought the Triax Saturday. It should be here in 10 days.

I would shoot them both. I have a Mathews Halon 7... I love it. Triax is a bit too short for me and I like the longer brace height bc my form isn't perfect...

I shot a Halon 6, Halon 32 6, and the Triax. Other then the hand shock difference, they all shot about the same for me. I ended up buying the Halon 6 (30" ATA) because I found one for $675 w/ AXT Rogue 5 pin sight and the bow was in like new condition. I had to examine it very hard to find one little scratch on the handle.
