I have a Mathews S2 bow. I noticed a possible problem this evening while waxing the string and cables. I don't know what you actually call it but the cable has a second (protective) string wrapped around the cable at the top and bottom ends before it goes into the cams. I noticed that one of these protective strings is loose and moves easily with my fingers. The rest of them are tight and in place. Is this actually a problem or I am just over-reacting? I don't want the bow to explode on me when I draw back on deer. Please let me know what you think. I have attached a picture, hopefully that makes it easier to understand what I am talking about.

That's what is known As "Serving Separation" From constant friction between the string and cam, all strings do it eventually, and I don't think it would present a problem right now(I don't want to say for sure), just means your strings are getting worn.

Single cams are a killer for serving seperation. It's normal, and especially normal for Mathews. I'd replace it soon.

My 08' PSE Mossy Oak X is doing it some, not as bad as that. It's a hybrid cam bow, but this is the second full year on the strings and I would hate to think how many thousand shots that bow has on it.

Took the bow to the local shop where I bought it, today. The guy there said yes it is normal for the Mathews bows to do that. He also said that as long as the server string does not start unraveling it will be fine for the rest of the season. He did tell me to put a new one on it after the season. He did also suggest that I keep that part of the cable waxed extra good just to make it slick so it would slide along the cam for now. Thanks for the advice guys, I really appreciate it. I have learned alot from everyone on here so far.

Matthews (Zebra) strings are crap in this regard. The separation that your picture showed is pretty extreme. I make my own strings and after over a year of hard use on my Matthews DXT I barely have any serving separation at all much less the extreme that yours shows. When you do replace your strings go to something better than the Zebra strings! (BuckNasty, Winners Choice, Vapor Trail or anyone other than the factory strings.) I've owned or worked on nearly every type of bow out there and have criticisms of them all. My beef with Matthews is their strings and cables.

    Mathews String/Cables

I know Mathew's Warranty doesn't cover the string or cables, but do non factory brands void any other part of the warrant. I am all for going to something better just don't want to mess up my warranty on the other parts of the bow. I will check out those other brands. Thanks guys for all the info.

No, they don't effect the warranty.
