Was wondering if there are any decent chances at sika deer on public land anywhere or if an outfitter/lease is the only way to have a real chance at a decent stag. You can PM me if you want to keep the info low. Also if you have a lease or property and would like a few $$$ or something to let a neighbor hunt with you a few days, let me know. Any other info on them would be awesome as well! Been wanting to hunt these little guys bad and tired of putting bucket list items on hold, I need to make some memories!!! Thanks a ton guys!
Black Water National Refuge is the place to go...no secret spots..the place is huge and a good Stag could be had in most of the areas.
Awesome thank you for the info sir! Really appreciate it! Still open to more info if anyone else has more to add!!!
I saw Jim Shockey hunt these and it looked pretty cool. They portrayed the deer as incredibly skittish and hard to catch glimpses of. It would be a fun hunt and a unique trophy!
Yeah seems to be very tough. They are also very nocturnal. Thats why most hunt them over feeders. I want one really bad. Not sure why, just love the looks of the little guys. And I hear their meat is some of the best tasting game out there. Havent had it so cant speak from experience, but thats what Im told. To bad you dont get a lot of it haha.
haha I know right?!? Hey the guy could have been pullin my chain I guess, he said they taste better then elk. Ive had elk and love it, hard to beat for sure, but he said it does. Guess I also gotta remember everyone's taste is different, he might like nasty food haha
Looks like I would need to hunt from the boat there...not many trees lol. Wont rule it out though will look more into it for sure!
Assateaugue/Chincoteague used to have a lottery hunt for sika deer. Not sure on the odds, but it's something to look into.
