I hate seeing this. Martin made alot of nice, affordable bows over the years. I didn't hear (or take the time to google it) but what caused them to close?
Not sure but seems odd that after uncle ted left they closed there door. I think uncle ted knew something was going down and pulled out?
I read that they just had a lot of debt that they couldn't get out from under. Something like 4 million in debt, and they only made about a $250,000 profit last year(which was more than they had in previous years). They had been trying to sell it off for a year or so, but I guess they never found a buyer???? Not sure about that part of it.
Never like to see an archery business go out like this. I knew a lot of guys that shot Martin and loved them.
This has been known for a while. Yea, he knew it was going to happen. I hate it. Sad day in the archery world. They were once innovators in the world of archery. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
Well, It wasn't the product. They had nice stuff. It was the marketing and probably the sourcing of raw material. Someone wasn't paying close enough attention to the P&L Sheets. It's a shame because they had a nice product.
I never used their bow even though they were nice. I always found something I liked better. I did like their ads a lot. Always had some beautiful bows pictured in them.
When I shot a compound they were my choice for a compound. Sucks seeing this as I know some day I'll be going back to a compound when my arms can't handle my recurve.
That's unfortunate - they were one of the pioneers in the archery industry for a long time. So if Martin is out of business who owns AT now?
I know the owner of AT owns Martin but aren't they separate entities? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
Uncle Teds check probably bounced. Why pull out if you are still getting paid. I never like to see people go out of business so it's to bad.
Bummer. A friend of mine was real close with the people in Martin. I'll have to see what he knows. I liked thier stuff too. At one time I felt like I was the only person that shot a Martin Bow.
I've had nothing but good luck with Martins and started off shooting them when I first got into archery in the late 70's. That's what the local pro shop was selling at the time. I've had a number of different Martins over the years and never had an issue. Seems like they got an aweful lot of negative press (Suprisingly on AT) due to limb failures and overall quality the past 5 years. I currently have an Exile and Onza which to me are/were good shooting bows for a reasonable price. Guess I'll try to sell them off if there's not going to be any parts available in the near future. I do have a Hoyt Vantage that I use for target shooting and just got a Mission Riot and though I've never been a fanboy of any particular brand, have to admit that the build quality and attention to detail on the Hoyt and Mission appear to be better than my Martins. There is just so much competition these days in the compound bow building business that Martin just sort of fell behind and obviously did not have the capital to reinvest into the business. The rumor mill has it that there is still some hope of a sale before the auction (Which was postponed from the begining of September) I truly hope someone buys it and keeps the name going.
