MLB network just announced it was confirmed as a torn ACL.I hope this is not the last we see of him. Arguably the best closer of all time.I hope this is not the last time he plays in a game.He deserves to go out better than tearing an acl shagging balls before a game. Of course they will be getting a second opinion. And I don't even like the yankees
It could be the single stupidest thing I've ever witnessed in sports in my life. WTF is the best closer in the history of the MLB (at age 42) doing shagging fly balls in pregame BP? I mean..... who makes the decision thats the thing he should be doing and ok? I've been shaking my head since last night trying to come up with an answer or justification. Simply can' come up with one. So that's going to be the last image of Mo going out and leaving baseball.... nice.... way to go yanks.
He's been doing that his whole career from what they were saying last night. Kinda of a pregame ritual. It's worked pretty well for him up to this point. If I were his manager I wouldn't have changed it either. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2
Saying it's a stupid move is a stupid statement. He's a professional athlete for crying out loud. What is he never supposed to get off his couch unless he's in a game pitching? Give me a break. Athletes need to stay physically active whether its in practice, in a game, or otherwise. I'm sorry to see this happen to him - he seems like a good guy and definitely one of the best closers of all time. BUT, if there was ever a time to hang it up this may be it.
I don't know... throw pitches, get on bike, medicine ball, weights, situps, push ups, etc... There are plenty of ways to stay physically fit and athletic aside from trying to act like Willy Mays in a pregame batting practice. We're not talking about little Johnny in Little league. He's a multi million dollar man and the best closer of the game. And probably the biggest key to your billion dollar franchises success. Call me crazy I guess.
Your crazy:D Part of his success was his relationship with the everyday players. Shagging balls before games was part of his routine and part of that relationship. One thing you don't do is screw with a pitchers rituals. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2
Yeah, I guess I'm wrong. I was just watching the pre game for tonights game. Seems as if Curtis Granderson is in the bullpen working on his slider to stay physically fit and building relationships with the bullpen.
I'm with you NYB. One of the dumbest things I've seen in sports for a while. There is a difference between shagging fly balls and going full tilt all the way to the warning track and dang near crashing into the wall. For all of you that say it was ok, go ask Mariano if he would like to have that " shagging ritual" moment back.
