I don't pay too much attention to sports, and even I knew coming into this season Bo's plan was to pick up the tempo of the offense. Looks like it's paying off.
Wisconsin did average 73.8 points per game this year. Much better than in years past. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
Bo has over 700 wins but has never been to a final four. This would be a big thing for him and his coaching legacy.
Points scored doesn't indicate offensive tempo, it's more of a reflection on efficiency. As I pointed out earlier, THIS SEASON Wisconsin rated 278th out of 351 D1 Teams in offensive tempo. They made up for it by being efficient and hitting a higher percentage of their shots. The reason this usually hurts teams in the tourney is all it takes is one off shooting night, and your team won't have enough possessions to put up a high number of points. So far they haven't had that off night and have looked as good as anyone. Time will tell if that holds out. Very well coached team though, and seems all their players know how to play within their role not trying to be something they are not. I hate his style of basketball to watch, but Bo Ryan is definitely a heck of a coach.
Usually possessions per game, time per possession, points may go into it. I'm not sure of the exact formula, but saw the stat on ESPN as they were going over the Badgers season. Team A averages 75 ppg, but averages 75 possessions per game (using 20 seconds per possession) on 45% shooting. Team B averages 75 ppg, on 60 possessions per game (using 30 seconds per possession) on 55% shooting. When looking at points only, they seem equal. In reality, team A TYPICALLY does better come tourney time as their success isn't dictated by hitting their shots at a high clip. They are less prone to falling due to an off night of shooting. These are generic numbers and don't always hold true, but its just a simple example of how tempo can vary greatly but ppg be equal due to a higher efficiency rating. Wisconsin Arizona should be yet another great game for this tourney. Been a great year for college hoops.
I actually like Michigan and Love Tom Izzo. I'm impartial to Wisconsin but I do hate watching that tempo of basketball. I do hate the B1G though. lol (more so just Ohio State, but they represent the B1G to most outsiders so the distaste spills over).
