On my way home from work this morning. I was driving by some fields next to a farm of mine and I saw some deer moving in field up the road. It looked like they was running around. When I got up there it was a buck that I had pics of all last summer and he had 2 does with him. He is a 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 year old buck that was running with other bucks last summer. But this morning he was up with 2 does. He wouldn't leave them and his glands was still black. Has anyone seen anything like this in march? Oh yeah sorry I'm in TN.

A few years back there was a local park that had some deer there. I remember the younger bucks still having their horns in April.

I have saw them this late with horns. But with does I haven't. He stayed with other bucks all summer in a batchler group. And he would not leave the does. I'm not saying he was chasing them. But it kinda looked like it. Because he would not leave them and his glands was still black. He just act a little ruttie. If that makes sense.

Two years ago I had one of my hit list bucks make it through the season and he walked in front of my ground blind mid April during turkey season still holding both sides with 3 does.

That just seems crazy. Seems way to late to be with does.

It happens all the time, you just don't notice because you're not in the woods as much as you are during the peak rut.

Absolutely correct. You’d notice it being more regular if you run cameras 365 days. Different levels of testosterone and harsher winters have a role in bucks holding antlers. I’ve got no answer for them being with does like that though.

I've been seeing buck and doe converge on the primary food sources since early January....in KY and TN. About 60% of the buck's are still holding antler also....but that's the norm (here).

Its the bucks being with does that is blowing my mind. I understand that young bucks hang with does sometimes all year but he was in batchler group this past summer. So I don't know. Maybe its just a couisadence.

I doubt I can find it but I've got a picture from a few years ago with a buck still holding one antler in May!
