The worst part of it all is Shaw put up better stats than Hoyer or Manziel, performed much better yet all ESPN did was talk about Hoyer and Manziel.
The Browns have a very good offensive line which includes the best left tackle in the NFL and a two time Pro-bowl center...pretty solid at all five positions relative to most NFL teams
All I'm going to say is that I'm glad the Vikings didn't take him. He will have players intentionally targeting him... Which he deserves. It doesn't matter what he did in college anymore, this is the NFL, which he has done NOTHING.
I'm a Browns fan, always have and always will. Most Browns fans I talk to aren't a fan of him and want Brian Hoyer to start. They both had a bad game and Manziel showed his inexperience and lack of discipline. He's a rookie, he's eager, and he's cocky. I think Brian Hoyer will get the nod and although they will struggle this season they are again working with a new head coach and a new playbook. I hope more than anything that they just stick to this crew and let them develop the team, including Manziel. I think Brian Hoyer can be that leader to teach Manziel so he can be the future QB of the Browns. There is still a lot of work to do, obviously.
I dont think he will ever make it. He will be the next Tebow. Anyone that hangs out with Justin beiber deserves to have there *** kicked.
As far as the coverage of him it's Tebow all over again. Can't turn on espn without hearing about him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
What gives you that comparison? The fact they are both talked about and both were great in college? That's about where the similarities stop. He can throw 10x better than Tebow ever did. I just don't get how someone can write off a 21 year old as a bust when he had the best college campaign in history as a qb numbers wise... Doesn't make sense.
Anyone who writes him off after a few snaps while still learning the playbook and frankly, learning a completely different type of offense obviously doesn't know what they are talking about. Also, a lot of his incompletions were due to timing issues, issues due to not enough first team reps to establish a repor (sp?) with his receivers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm not writing Manziel off, but I'll say I'm not really rooting for him either. He has athletic ability but right now is a rookie and doesn't know the NFL. Will he ever amount to a good NFL quarterback? I don't know but give him a chance to play. There are a lot of college offenses that don't translate to the NFL well for QB's and they need some time to adjust. He definitely needs to keep his emotions in check. You know what happens to the new guy that comes in talking crap right out of the gate.... they get it sooner or later. Another problem is the NFL paying this kids a ridiculous amount of money before they've done anything. The NFL is too different of an animal to get paid millions out o the gate. They need to put a cap on the money for the first 2 years and then let the team that drafts them get first chance to negotiate a new contract after that 2 years. If an agreement isn't done, let them be free agents. It would at least make them prove themselves first and find out if they can make the grade.
I don't know anything about him but I have heard he has a terrible attitude... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The owners of these teams make BILLIONS in profit annually split among them... I hardly think rookie salaries are a major problem on their budget. As far as Manziel goes, I agree whole-heartedly... I can easily see not WANTING him to succeed. I can't really understand not THINKING he will succeed given his pedigree to this point. He's a train wreck that I enjoy watching too much for it to end just yet.
PLEASE do not compare Manziel with Tebow! Tebow was a GREAT college football PLAYER, Manziel was a GREAT college QB.
Love the train wreck comment. Couldn't agree with you more! I also agree the owners aren't worried about rookie salaries, I'm just of the mind set to pay someone for what they can do and have done, not what someone thinks they might do.
It's all a business. Jonny Football has already paid off his entire rookie contract in full just in ticket and jersey sales alone, and he never even stepped foot onto the field for the Browns yet. Same with these enormous endorsements Athletes make. Lebron is set to make $30 million+ from Nike alone next year... Sounds absurd until you consider Lebron's shoe/apparel line grosses $400 million in sales annually for Nike. These athletes are rich, the guys writing their checks are wealthy (as stated by the great Katt Williams with much more vulgar language).
The size of rookie contracts are already capped by the league. The deals are chump change compared to what veterans can make and many players vastly outperform their first contract. NFL players are also paid a lot less than NBA and MLB players despite being a more popular and lucrative league. You are wrong in saying these players are being paid for having done nothing...they have put in many years of hard work to get themselves into a position to be a legitimate NFL prospect....not to mention the wear and tear on their bodies and injury risk for just getting through several years of college ball. The average NFL career is a little over two years. Are you really that concerned about the bottom line of NFL owners?
The Browns made the right choice in making Manziel #2 at the point in time for a few reasons. 1. It is an eye opener for him. Before the draft, he thought he was a top 5 pick and was going to step in and be a starter somewhere. He now realizes that he has to earn his keep. 2. This decision by the Browns may or may not be because of his actions in the skins game, but now he can sit and wonder if that played a part in it, which in return should improve future behavior. 3. The Browns now have the interest of people that do not support them (like me) to see what the outcome will be. We may dislike the kid, but now we are attached to the "story" and will wait for the Browns highlights on SC to see what happened to Manziel on Sundays.
