It was opening day today and the first time I've ever hunted with a crossbow. Never killed anything on opening day before. It was about 1845 and to be honest I was very tired and hungry after hunting the morning. My back was hurting from sitting for so long and the little snack I had at 1600 was just not cutting it. I was thinking of getting down a little early so I could drive into town and get something to eat. I looked to my right and about 20yds away there was a doe. I had just looked in that direction so I don't know where she came from. I decided since I had never shot anything with a crossbow I would shoot her if given a chance. She fed forward and for a few moments I thought she was going to feed right to the base of my tree. She went forward a few more steps and I unleashed the arrow. I heard a loud smack as she jumped in the air and ran right towards me. I could see blood flowing freely as she passed my tree so I knew it was a fatal hit. She ran less than 20 yards and fell over dead. All in all a very quick and clean kill. I know there are many here who are anti-crossbow but I got no less thrill from taking this animal with it as opposed to my compound. I shot my compound for 35 years and I just didn't feel like I could do it the way it needed to be done anymore. That's why I switched. Blessings.........Pastorjim
Way to go Jim! My first buck last year was very similar; went to turn around to stand up, hunting from the ground that day, and he was just standing there about 15 yards away. Always a great feeling when it's a quick kill! Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
just so long as it wasn't an airbow ...just kidding. As long as it's legal and you're enjoying the woods, everyone should be happy for you. Congrats.
Congrats Jim, as long as it gets you out in the woods and gives you the satisfaction and enjoyment of this sport and pastime that is all that matters. More power to you my friend.
Congrats... I switched to an xbow following a horrible accident in 2000 that left me not able to lock out my left arm. I started hunting in 2004 again and and the thrill / heart pounding is still there today.
