What do you all think of placing a Manakin in the Blind / Stand while you are not hunting all summer and spring? I figured if the deer get use to the shape of the body up in the tree or blind that they may not be as alert coming into the area in the fall and winter. I also determined a CON while typing this and think they may look right at the blind if they know the Manakin is there What do you all think?
It may be an effective way to get them used to seeing someone or it could completely backfire and send them running for the hills. interesting idea. Try it out and let us know. Lol Sent from my Windows Phone 8X by HTC using Tapatalk
I guess I'd personally rather them not know of anything above them so they wouldn't have any reason to look up at you... just my thoughts
I have thought of doing this too. Try it in your worst spot so you don't hurt anything if it doesn't work.
I remember the Drury boys doing this for a blind years back. They used cardboard cutouts. I don't think they ever done it since?
I've heard from a few old timers that it does work....but I always wonder..what do you do with it when you want to use the stand?
I can see it going both ways. Yes, they will get used to something in that particular stand but then they may also be trained to look up in trees no matter where they are. Set up a camera and let us know!
It could prove to be effective, however, my first thought is I wouldn't want the deer getting used to looking up.
