I considered the XPro, and I still might eventually buy one, but I went with the MVH500AH for use with my PXW-X70. The main reason was that the plate on the MHV500AH can slide forward and back to balance out the weight of the camera. I'm not sure how the XPro would handle a camera that is front heavy. I'd like to try one out and see because I do like the smaller plate. The MVH500AH's plate is actually pretty long and interferes with my battery release on the camera, so I've actually been using a Vanguard PH-123V. I'm not real thrilled with it either because it has a little play in the tilt before the fluid motion kicks in. I'll probably switch back to the MVH500AH this year, and maybe put a spacer between the plate and the camera to allow me to swap batteries.

If you had to do it over again would you get the XPRO?

    Or what about the 701HDV?

This is that last piece of equipment I need to get right now that I'm not sure about. I'm sure all 3 will do fine for me. I know the XPRO is meant for a DSLR but would work for my G20. I'm afraid the 500 might be too stiff but not sure.

Well, since I haven't really used the MVH500AH, I suppose I would have. I'd like to get one in my hands, but there aren't any dealers around me that carry them. I used to have a 701HDV, but I sold it with my old setup when I upgraded. I wish I had kept that head because it worked great. That's why I bought the Vanguard head. It's very simliar to the 701HDV, just wish it was a better quality.

Do you like the 701 better than the 500? I think the 500 "looks" like its great quality.

I ended up choosing the MV500AH for my G20 and it should be here today. I ordered my LANC controller too (Varizoom Stealth, didn't see a real need for the LX) and a Muddy Outfitter camera arm. I also got my windscreen, some filters, and a carry bag from work. The only thing I have left to order is my software which I will probably do today.

you will be happy with the MV500. That's what I use fro my G20. Two things though with it. Like sky said the big plate makes it so you cant really do a quick swap on the batteries if needed. Other thing I don't like is if you are tilted all the way down (like something is right below you) and let go it will slowly float its way back up a little.

Honestly, I wish I still had my 701. It was a great head. I think the 500 is also a great head, but it's just a little larger than I expected. It will do the job for sure.

It does have a fixed drag, but I think you can tighten up the lock just a little and it should help with that. I can't verify that with real world experience since I've opted not to use mine to this point.

Yes you can tighten it up a little and fix it. But to completely eliminate it I feel it is to stiff then. To me its not a HUGE deal because I wont take a straight down shot anyways so If I have to film straight down I will still be holding on following.

Makes sense. My Vanguard PH123V has an adjustable drag and is basically just like the 701HDV. I just wish it was build as quality. It has almost a 1/4" of play in the tilt before the drag kicks in. It's manageable, but not ideal.

My vanguard 123v kinda hangs up in the cold. However imo any fluid head is way better than free handing it. I have friends tryna film with i phones.

My MV500AH, Muddy Outfitter Arm, Varizoom Stealth and Adobe Premier Effects are sitting at the house waiting for me to get home (I'm on vacation at the beach). I can't wait to put it all together and get to practicing
