I was thinking about getting a Manfrotto 701HDV head for my Canon Vixia camcorder. I have a question about the head. Do you need to loosen knobs or whatever in order to move the head around?

No, unless you have them locked down too tight. You can set the knobs to where they will keep the camera where ever you point it. You can loosen the knob to get easier movement.

It is a fluid head and you can adjust the drag with those knobs. Great head. You will be happy with that head with your vixia.
