Read the thread and you will see who started the personal attacks and engaged in the most name calling............funny thing is though I haven't read one single person crying about that.........but when I respond it's a problem??

Based on what you know as a hunter do you think the frontal/quartering to shot is a high percentage shot on par with the broadside or quarter away shot. In other words a shot every bow hunter should take if given the chance as it is just as likely to result in success as the other shots available.

Please use proper grammar. A question mark should be used in your first sentence.

Great description of why it's such a poor choice.........it was said earlier in the thread that a quarter away shot was tough sometimes because the angle would result in only one lung being hit.

Tell me exactly how you're going to punch both lungs ever from a true frontal shot. You BETTER get lucky and hit the heart or a main vessel or that elk dies for nothing who knows how many hours or days later.

Another funny/sad aspect of this is how many guys you will see saying you should aim where the dark neck of the elk transitions into the lighter chest.

Maybe that's why the shot fails so often.........guys simply don't know where to aim but they hear lots of guys tell them how deadly the shot is......only to learn otherwise the hard way.

There's really no shot every bowhunter should take. It's been stated several times by several different people on here that anyone in the woods should only take shots they're comfortable with taking, no matter what orientation the animal is facing.

Bottom line, know your capabilities. No matter what shot you take there's always a chance something goes wrong.

The frontal shot is not meant for a lung hit. It's is meant to take out the top of the heart and every major artery coming to and from as well as any organs it may encounter past that. If the arrow makes it into the soft spot you will hit everything that you need too.

Umm your question was... What we thought the sucess rate of the shot is. I've told you several times I'm not going to try an make up numbers. I said from what I know 2 for 2. I have not debated that this shot is better than broadside?? Just stating under the right circumstances(under 20 yards, head up) I would take this shot.

If every other bowhunter is confident they can put the arrow in the "hole" then take the shot.

Agreed, but when you start off with a low percentage shot you have little to no room for error. I know without a doubt in my mind that the hours I spend hand crafting my ammo and shooting my rifle that I could shoot any deer I get in my scope under 200 yards right through the head. Instant kill, and a shot I am 100% sure I would make.

Knowing that I would NEVER take that shot on any live animal EVER. The margin for error is zero and a misplaced shot equals disaster.

You wait for your best shot opportunity........if that ends up being a low percentage shot fraught with disaster then you lost that round. Not the end of the world, that's hunting.

I had the biggest buck I have ever seen in my sights at full draw in Illinois but he wouldn't clear some scrub and I didn't have a good clear shot..........so I watched him walk away. If I let that arrow fly he could be on my wall right now.......but just as easily he could have been horribly wounded and lost. I think about that day often but never once have I regretted my decision.

I have too much respect for the animals I hunt to take low percentage shots at them.

So it's a 12" window but you're guaranteed to hit the heart?? Show me a picture of an elk heart that is a foot wide and I'll believe that.

    Mistakes:

    (1) "an" instead of "a" in front of the word ole

    (2) "Knowing that I would NEVER take that shot on any live animal EVER." - Fragment

Saying what you think is not "making up numbers". Why can't you just admit it's the lowest percentage for success shot you can take with a bow??

EVERY respectable public resource already says that.

You don't need to hit the heart to hit arteries.
