In one of the early BHOD episodes, I saw Cody was making some man made funnel points by cutting down the less helpful trees and basically making brush walls.
I want to do this but some of the areas that I wanna try this in don't have "extra" trees that I could cut... Any ideas on how I can still try a funnel point? Would it work to bring in brush from somewhere else?

Sure it would. Anything to stop them from going the other way and make them go where you want them to go!

The food plot I have in the middle of trees, I took all the trees that I cut and made it so there are only 2 entry/exits. It works great! I don't see there being a problem bringing some in.

Absolutely, bring brush from other places in. If it's high enough I am sure it will help encourage them to move through the spot you want them to.

Are there small trees (or large trees for that matter) where you are thinking of doing this? Perhaps you can hinge cut several in a line to create a kind of fence??

It is right next to a swamp where it's that yellow grass and willows and a few trees, not enough to start cutting down...

When you guys make funnel points, where do you put your stand in relation to the funnel? Do you put your stand "inside" the funnel so the deer has yet to walk through the narrows when he crosses your stand? Or do you put your stand "outside" the funnel so the deer walks through the narrows and then gets to your stand?

Im leaning on the "inside" approach but I have never done this before

Personally, I would place my stand just on the outside of the funnel.

It all depends on the scenario and the landscape you are dealing with though. Maybe post a screenshot of the land and we can try to give some suggestions?

I wouldn't bring in brush, seems like a lot of work and will be temporary. If I needed a funnel in an area with no resources to make it in the area, I'd bring in a fence. Doesn't have to be so high they can't jump it, just a big enough where they'd prefer to go around it to where you want them. It would last longer and be easier in my opinion.

What do big mature smart bucks think of man made fence? Would they walk through the funnel or just ignore that area?

It all really depends on where you're funneling them to and what the deer population is.

I'm sure a deer would not think anything of it after seeing it for a while and being accustomed to it being there.

If you observe fences and deer crossings, you find crossings where the bottom strand is held up, a top strand is pushed down, of a hole or end to the fence exists. Not saying you're going to push deer where they don't want to be, but can guide then into possitions you can take advantage of.

Big bucks seldom move out of an area, they turn nocturnal where they're being hunted and avoid areas with human scent but once theyre establish in an area it takes a lot of pressure to push them to new territory. You pretty much have to compromise all his bedding areas in his range to make him completely leave.

This past winter when I was clearing an area for an eventual corn field I lined the edges of the field with all the brush and tree tops. And made four openings/lane ways/funnels to get into the field. Deer started using them immediately. I agree on the fence idea. Deer are lazy . Just do it now or within the next few weeks, not a week before the rut..lol!!

Id love to do what you did for your cornfield! But we dont have time or land to cut trees down in this area... I was thinking SnowFence? have to jump over it cant go under it. So it wouldnt completely work, there would always be a chance they could just jump it but maybe they would work?

snow fence was exactly what I was thinking for your situation. as long as they are not pressured, they "should" naturally follow it if you make it easy for them to do so

Might get kind of spendy buying all that snow fence...

the two spots that Im thinking of now would need about 300 yards total. I dont know if i will even have time for that...
