Rick, in Wisconsin we do not have a CCW, although it seems that is going to change shortly with our new Governor, but you can openly carry a firearm in the state of Wisconsin......however, be prepared to have the police surround you when someone complains and you might end up being taken into custody for a while....ya, it's legal to openly carry in Wisconsin, but as the Milwaukee Police chief said in the past, be ready for the consequences !

Here in the next few months I will be pretty much armed every day of the week. Work and "play". :)

I would LOVE to be on the jury for that guy when his trial occurs later this summer... on second thought, I'd love to be his defense attorney, because I'd do everything in my power to have that cop kicked off the force and to make an example out of the District Attorney's Office about what a bunch of liberal whackos were running the show there.

Amazing how far our country has fallen... pathetic, really.

Greg, I agree, our country is weakening. A guy carries an open LEGAL weapon in public and is treated like that, yet thugs can walk over that city smelling like dope and running guns and they are let be for the most part because it is "smalltime" crime.

I was at McDonald's with my kids a couple of months ago when a civilian walked in carrying a .40 cal on his leg. He was with his girlfriend and people were giving him the "I'm confused and scared" look, yet I felt very comfortable knowing another law abiding citizen was there ready to protect himself and potentially my kids from the evil people in our society.

I really wish we would annex Philly to New Jersey.

The open carry laws for the city of Philadelphia have been on the books since 1995. I can completely understand a police officer not knowing every minute detail of every mundane law, but not knowing the open carry law is unacceptable.

Absolutely true. And then the fact that he was an A-1 ARSEhole about the whole thing when the guy was calmly explaining the law to HIM is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE.

It's attitudes and actions like that which gives cops a black eye.

Not only did he not know the law but his supervisors didn't either it seems. Took several calls to determine it.

People have fallen into the nanny-state mentality too much. Anyone whom attempts to execute their rights is shunned, threatened and abused by those whom are ignorant and zombified.

Time to go beyond merely voting these people out of office because that obviously isn't working anymore.

I'm going to put a little different spin on this story. First off, if it's legal the cops should know. My fault with this whole deal is that it seems like a big set up for a "let's screw with the cops". Who with a real life walks around with a recorder on his body so he can record, "hey buddy... hands in the air". It wasn't like he was told I'm going to challenge you.... the recording was already recording. Duhhhhhhhhh... no wonder the DA is pissed. And Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... if you turn around and a cop has a gun in your face and says "ON THE GROUND". Duhhhhhhhhhhhhh..... you should get on the ground. You want to *****, complain, file a complaint or whatever... do it after you're on the ground and the gun is holstered... or maybe tomorrow. Don't continue to play the role of jerk and I'm right. This whole story could easily have been avoided if the cop just accepted "I'm not laying on the ground and shot the sucker". Tell me you can't see that happening. This obivious to me is a set up from the get go by our "poor gun packing whacko". Yes we have some cops that don't know the laws.... but we have a con guy walking around with a damn recorder playing in his pocket hoping he can make a stink. Let's see????? Philly???? Guns???? Not doing as the cop tells you to do???? Not complying with orders from a cop with a gun in your face????? I call it a political set up and bamboozle. Someone just trying to make a stink and get some publicity. Who in a right frame of mind walks around with a recorder recording their miserable life as they go to NAPA to get some brake pads?

I agree with you david in everything you say, well with just one exception actually and that is:

BTW David, you have any contact info for BB at the Zoo? The last # you gave me was invalid I want to check that place out this year to see if anything has changed. Please PM if you do.

Just think of all the trouble that could be avoided if we all just rolled over.

We could have just paid more taxes back in the 1770's.

Rosa Parks could have just gone to the back of the bus.

Susan B. Anthony could have stayed home instead illegally voting.

Was the guy carrying a tape recorder because he was looking for trouble or because he was prepared for it? Does it really matter?

There is apparently a cop problem in Philly. The citizens shouldn't just all go face first to the ground and accept it. The cops have now declared publicly that they will harrass citizens who open carry.

The police state powers will probably make tape recording illegal next. Great way for them to protect themselves from any peon who dares question their authority or exercise their few remaining rights.

Make taping any cop a Class I Felony, punishable by 4-15 years in prison. Then anyone with a cell phone can be made to lay in the dirt... you know, to 'co-operate' with the police. After all, they might be breaking the law. ;)
