A Dutch engineer was able to fly like a bird thanks to robotically-assisted wings made using Wii controllers and other parts, according to Wired. “At one moment you see the ground moving away, and then suddenly you’re free, a really intense feeling of freedom,” 31-year-old Jarno Smeets said. “The true feeling of flying. A ****ing magical moment. The best feeling I have felt in my life.” His own muscle power could never provide the amount of strength needed to move the wings at the proper speed. Instead, Turnigy motors power the wings based on the movement of his arms. The 37-ounce wings were built from a kite and carbon windsurf masts.
I'm thinking... do I want to try that? Not now ... but maybe when it's perfected... maybe it won't require so much effort. I see potential... but I'll stick to my Bass boat for now.
I am going to remain a skeptic on this. Seems it would have gotten a LOT more mainstream media attention. I see car tire tracks in the grass following the same direction. Is it possible that he was towed and there has been some creative video editing? Hard to say, but I have seen other viral videos that looked equally impressive, only to be later proven faked. Looks plausible, but, I just dont buy it yet.
Neither does someone else..... http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2012/03/22/viral-human-bird-wings-video-fake-probably-ad-expert-says/
I saw this, the guys that made this were interviewed and admitted to it being fake. They just wanted to see if an audience would believe that they could actually fly.... And there was a lot of tricky camera work that went into it.
Okay... a couple months ago it was some guy with a miniature deer blind that got me... now this. C'mon... and from Bruce of all people... I though he was trustworthy. I guess I'm just kind of gullible.
It happens man. By the way, I have a great deal on some beachfront condos in Arizona if you have any interest. Just give me a PM and I will hook you up. You are gonna LOVE this deal!
Fake or not... I think the idea is pretty damn cool. It would be fantastic to have a simple mechanism that the average joe can step outside in his backyard and cruise around about 100' up. Something safe and easy.. keep dreamin right..
