Was driving home last night and saw a relatively small doe crossing the road and following here was a extremely small fawn. Do you think this doe had her fawn late or just had a small fawn? I know there is food around the area for the deer so not sure why this little guy is so little.

For the record this is the smallest deer I have ever seen this late in season and wish I had a picture.

Hard to say, but several years back, I was gun hunting(So it would have had to have been at least Mid November). I was hunting on land I don't typically hunt so I was sitting on the ground against a tree next to a trail. I caught some movement coming my way, and watched this tiny deer walk up the trail and it walked past me a no more than 5 feet away. It was the smallest deer I had ever seen. I'm talking between 2 and a half to 3 feet tall to her back. Smaller than a fawn would be even if it was a very late fawn. The only explanation I can come up with was that it was a dwarf.

I see alot of small fawns. In our area tons of does, some get bred 2nd or 3rd cycle. This leads to late born fawns. They are dinks, even in Nov/Dec.

I have twins by me that are super small. No spots but I don't think they weigh more than 30 lbs live weight. Mom looks like a 1 1/2 year old that was bred to early in life and to late in the season. I also have fawns that are as big as mom and you can't tell them apart anymore.
