Getting closer to locating it today but its more than likely 15,000 feet deep. Depending on the condition of the fuselage, how much effort and expense should be made to recover people and possessions if they do locate it?
As much effort as humanly possible... Doesn't matter how much time/money it takes - They need to find this plane and the people in it, for the families sake. I know if I had a relative in the plane I would expect them to use every resource possible, no matter the cost, to recover them.
Taken from CNN.com- When Air France Flight 447, with 228 people on board, plunged into the South Atlantic Ocean during a storm in 2009, the precise location of the wreckage remained a mystery for almost two years. Then the plane and its dead were found in a mountain range 13,100-feet deep on the ocean floor. Miniature submersible vehicles retrieved the Flight 447's voice and flight data recorders. Eventually 154 bodies were recovered. Seventy-four still rest in the watery grave.
I tend to agree they need to do everything possible. I guess it depends on the condition of the remains at some point too but at either rate I am glad officials are at least close to knowing for sure the fate of the plane and the passengers.
