i have been researching, face paint, and am beginning to wonder why people dont just make their own instead of spending, several dollars on just an ounce of paint. i was looking at carbomask, but i think the homemade ones will be just as easy to remove since they could be waterbased. any thoughts?
For duck hunting I just char the end of a wine cork with a lighter and rub it on my face but scent may be an issue.
Probably for the same reason a lot of people spend money instead of doing things themselves. The time involved in doing something like this might make it worthwhile to just fork over the few dollars. I always try to be as self-sufficient as possible. I tied my own wrist sling even though in the time it took me, I could have probably bought one for a lot cheaper, I butcher and process all my own game and I'm even going to start tanning leather and making gloves and other items from it this year. I find all of those things interesting and fun, but not everybody does.
Tanning leather and making gloves sounds fun, actually. I need to get a deer before I worry about what to do with excess hide, though.
This HAS to be some kind of record. In five posts this thread went from making face paint to tanning leather and making gloves. That's impressive. On the facepaint issue, I like the idea of burning a cork and using that. It would be dirt cheap, would clean off easily and the supplies would be easy to find. Then again, for those of you who go that route why not just throw a plain old charcoal briquet in a ziplock bag and use that? You'd also probably have more carbon on your face than you'd find in a scent-lok pull-over. :D
I've thought about making some. It's just to convenient to buy some. Ive tried that new camo fx this year. Love how easy it comes off.
