Des Moines TV is reporting as many as 70 vehicles, including numerous semi truck trailer rigs are involved. A snow storm moved into the area late this morning causing slick roads in the area. So far at least 2 are reported dead and several seriously injured due to the crash. MY NOTE: Why is it drivers will not slow down when bad road conditions hit.
Geez, there was a pretty nasty one yesterday down on I44 in Missouri to. I had to drive down the KC yesterday morning and it was near whiteout conditions, yet people decided to tailgate less than a car length behind. Just dumb, slow down and give plenty of space between vehicles.
My favorite was when arriving at an accident scene where a lady from NJ had pasted the car ahead at a stop sign with her Suburban. She got out of her rig when we got there and said, "I don't know why it wouldn't stop. I had it in 4WD!" You just can't fix stupid.
If you believe that, than 95% of the drivers out there are NOT normal. They do not slow down. Was stated so by the state troopers and deputies that covered that mess, along with City Officers in Des Moines and several other locations around the snow storm area.
I live in Wisconsin and majority of people I see flying on bad roads are trucks and SUV's with AWD. Blows my mind when roads are snow covered yet people go 55-60 on the highway. This past Saturday I was almost hit by a van who was doing at least 60 mph on a back road and fish tailed into the ditch twice.
To a see a vido of this wreck happening in part by DOT camera go to kcci.com Can tell from that after the initial crash speed was definitely a factor.
