I just made my first 3D camo homebrew and I think it turned out great. Tell me what you think. This is my 2nd homebrew overall. Currently making plans to build a third. Pick a tree with a bark pattern you like. Spray with cooking spray and then apply silicone rubber. Here is what it should look like after the rubber has been applied. I used a wet paper towel and dabbed the caulking to really push it into the bark's nooks and crannies. Let it dry for at least 24 hours and peel it off the tree. Some bark may be embedded into the mold. This is fine. Now that the mold is made (and dry); it is time to apply construction adhesive to the mold. Again, once this is done...dab with a WET paper towel to push the adhesive into the mold. The construction adhesive (the brand I used anyway) takes longer to set up and dry than the rubber mold did. I let this set up for a minimum of 2 days. Peeled it off and spray painted green. Now its time to cut and trim to fit the camera. It is important to do this sooner than later. The construction adhesive will get hard if you wait a week or so. You can make a "hood" for the camera lense to shed the rain. Apply the 3d camo to your camera case using the same construction adhesive that was used to create the camo itself. I hand painted it with a few contrasting colors to give it more depth. I don't have a pic but I went back and added more gray so it would blend better. Concealed
That's a great looking build for you first home brew. I'm impressed!! P.S. I'm sure this won't be your last homebrew. They are addicting. I have built 5 so far.
Thanks man! Thats actually my 2nd homebrew but my first attempt at the 3D camo deal. My first homebrew I just threw on some camo cloth tape....boring. The 3d camo is so much better. I've got everything else ready to make a third. Dawg...they're not that hard to make. If you ever do decide, I could probably give you some pointers or at least point you in the right direction. kskcheche...thanks!
Great job man, I had no idea you were into homebrews. What camera and board did you use? Looks like a P41. Blessings......Pastorjim
Yes sir!!! I made that first one and just couldn't get enough. :D This is my second p32 with the bigfoot trailmaster board. I've made two identically the same except for the camo job. I have the same camera and board to make a third. I'm the kinda person that finds something I like and then I stick with it. With that being said, do you have any suggestions for another build? I thought I wanted to do an IR build but I'm on the fence about it. I want something with a little bit better picture quality too. Maybe an S600?
Looks great. I just cheat and apply liquid nails right to the case, form it shortly thereafter, then paint.:D
Matt, I thought about going that route but went with the mold instead. I'll always have this mold so it won't be that much of a hassel the next time I need to make 3d camo.
Yes I did. There are a total of 4 AA's. I might had two of the AA holders in my next build and have 6 AA's total. I have room. What size memory cards are you guys using? 512mb, 1GB? I just went with 1GB cards in a couple of my cams. I'm hoping those won't slow my cams down.
The S600 takes the best pics for sure but the hack is the most difficult. As far as an IR for the S600, I wouldn't do it. The pic quality is just too good and I'd hate to miss out on them. I know guys are doing IRs on some cams but I don't know what the most popular model is. Another cam you might want to consider for your next build is the Sony P41. It is blazing fast and takes really nice pics. I've also got a Sony W7 that I really like the pics from but you have to build a case with a snorkel because the lense extends when it takes a pic. Personally, I'd go with the S600 or P41 if I were you. Blessings.......Pastorjim
You won't have any problems but I wouldn't use anything larger than a 1GB in a P32. Blessings......Pastorjim
Looks good Finch!!! U might be on to something there. Seems to be workin out good for ya too... Keep it up.
Waaaaay too much time on your hands Seriously, looks great!!! Never would have thought about using liquid nails, great idea!
