I am getting ready to purchase (through the VA) a new laptop for school. A lot of people tell me to go with a Macbook while others still say Sony, Samsung or Toshiba. Which do you prefer, and why?
Mac, better operating system and virtually no bugs. A pc running windoz has bugs and patches am blue screens.
Mac. It is overpriced for the actual hardware you get. That said, it simply never slows down. Like ever. I've had mine for going on two years, the battery still lasts all day and its as lightning fast as it was the day I bought it. It's hard to get used to when you have always used PC, but shortly after owning it you will wonder how you went without. It was hard accepting that Macs do everything for you instead of you having to do it. Every PC I have ever owned lasted <1 year before it was so bug ridden it was faster to walk to the library to look up an answer. I've never had that problem anymore.
Macbook pro. I havent had mine long but so far i really like it. Its very fast and like said above no bugs which means not having to buy virus protection. people that say they will never by a mac i bet those people have never owned one. Macs are just nice simple as that.
I was a huge PC fan for years, never thought mac would ever be something sitting on my desk. About 4 years ago my uncle purchased an Imac. I played around on it for a bit, and liked how everything worked. Needless to say, I went out and got myself an Imac. About 4 months later, my wife wanted to upgrade her laptop so we got her the Mac Book Pro. My computer is right at four years old and runs like the day I bought it. I have my hard drive partitioned, so I can run windows if need be. They are a little more expensive, but well worth the investment. I had been purchasing new computers every two years. Spending 600+ on a new tower, so technically this computer has already paid itself off. Any additional life I get out of it will be money in the bank(sorta). I highly recommend swapping over to Mac if you have the funds available. I made the change and will never go back to a windows PC, unless I have no other choice. Hope that helps shed some light for ya.
Never had any major issues with PCs (built desktops as well as laptops). Nothing against Macs, just priced too high for my liking. Sony Vaio S series are great for the money (true 1080, IPS screen, extra bay for SSD without sacrificing optical drive, etc.) Thinkpad W series is also a solid choice. We will be purchasing a new laptop in a few months for my wife. Those two along with the Lenovo Y480 are on the top of the list
I recently purchased a laptop for school and went with a HP. Now I love Apple stuff and wanted a Mac, however none of the programs I needed for school were available on Mac. With that said I have had the HP for 6 months and for what I've needed it for it has been perfect. On a side note, my graduation gift to myself will be a MacBook Pro.
I've never owned a mac so my reply may be useless. Having said that, I bought an Asus from Best Buy several months ago and it's still going strong and no issues. I'm running Windows 7. I did TONS of research like I do on anything. That is the most important aspect of buying (insert whatever here)....do the research and read the reviews.
Mac. I was a PC guy, then switched to Mac in school. Had a Powerbook then a PowerMac. Two years ago we wanted to get a new laptop and decided on an Acer. It's ok, but I should have just saved up and gotten another Mac.
It amazes me to see people talk about Blue Screens. I haven't seen a blue screen in a decade. I just was given an ACER with windows 8, touchscreen. Whole new learning curve but fun. I have an old Dell laptop that has a few pixels missing. I have a Desktop my son gave me when my wife was still alive. She died in 2006. I'd say we got the desk top back when I still owned the business. I sold out in 2002. LOL I've added memory and stuff like that.... but it keeps on ticking. LOL Blue Screens?... I think that's an old wife's tale.
How do you like Windows 8? We have the option of getting it at a serious discount on our netbook, but we're a little uneasy. What makes it better than Windows 7? We have the new Gateway netbook and a ten-year old Dell desktop. Both work just fine for what we do. The prices on a Mac are obscene. We see no reason to pay that much for something that won't do any more than what we have.
I have an Ipad for play and a PC for work/everything else. I had a Mac for work for three weeks and got sick and tired of having to run two operating systems to do everything. I went back to the PC and do whatever I need. Our business world works on PC so I need to as well. Our IT folks used a Mac for two years before switching back to PCs.
I think the Mac's probably have the edge, but the real question is what do YOU need to do on it? Mac won't run certain programs, so you need to make sure it will work for you before you buy it. I'd probably buy one but I can't run several of my financial software programs on them so I use a pc. (an Acer btw, its great...never had an issue!)
