    Agree to disagree?

In my experience (20 years) 9 out of 10 times any computer, no matter the OS, has an issue it is related to a mistake or bad decision the user made no matter what their level of education might be. Both types get clunky and both types get bugs simple as that.

You hit the nail on the head. I had an eMachines desktop that was a gift when I graduated college in 2003. I never had any problems with it, because I was diligent about running a virus scanner as well as keeping up with all the spyware stuff. It finally crapped out this year due to the power supply going bad. On the other hand, my grandma has gone through four or five desktops in that time frame. Her complaint was they would get slow, which I always chalked up to her clicking on something or visiting a site that did her PC harm. I tried to keep up with the virus scanners and such, but her being on dial-up made it nearly impossible after the initial install.

Where you were you guys BEFORE he bought the mac? I said all these things but no one listened.

And yea, ive built a couple computers in the past few years. You just need to the right combination and not click on the stupid websites. I didnt do updates or antivirus. Probably not the best way to go, but windows updates can slow your computer down depending on what it is. Macs are far better in reliability because it costs 3x as a much as a PC which = 3x better hardware. And hackers and viruses havent populated as much in Macs....yet. I also dont think people hate microsoft as much as people hate apple, which might be why people arent so focused on breaking down apple.

I wanted to buy a Macbook when I purchased my laptop for school. I ran into an issue though where certain programs I needed for school where not available on a Mac.

Don't make life more complicated than it already is....buy a Mac.

For further prof...look at the stock market.

Apple Stock Per Share - $451.45
Windows Stock Per Share - $27.94
Dell Stock Per Share - $13.82

Stock prices don't always correlate. Ford is only $12.66 and GM is $32. Personally I think Ford is better.

Exxon is only $100 yet it's the most valuable company when Priceline is $700 and Google is $800

Blaming bad websites is a cop out.

I'm in college, I click on literally hundreds of sites a day I prolly shouldn't.... If I had a PC lol. My computer is still good as new.

One huge thing I don't like about macs is their photo storage system. Folders and files makes more sense to me than the huge pot separated into "events" that a Mac uses. And to view pics before downloading them like when checking a trail cam is a pain on a Mac compared to PC.

Trevor, I use the events as my "folders" I organize mine by Fall 2012,Winter 2012, Spring 2013, Summer2013, etc. That way when I go to look for a pic in a certain year I know exactly where it is. Also, when you use finder your photos are already in those folders as well. Viewing pics before downloading them is easy. All you have to do is open the file where the pics are, select all and double click on a photo, you can then go through all the photos (using arrow keys) before downloading them.

Lol this makes much more sense. Part of my problem is I allowed my roommate to download my PC hard drive over to the Mac, and the way they store things is opposite so I started out with 8k disorganized photos. Before I went by topic such as Turkey, then subfolders for the dates/trips. The Mac took it upon itself to remove them all from the folders and group them by date.

I need to wipe them out and redone load the ones I want organized correctly this time.

I just made folders for the spots I hunt, then folders for the timeframe of the pictures and that works perfectly. To check the pictures, I plug in my card reader, open the folder and look at the pictures through Preview. I don't fool with iPhoto.

Right. I know that. And stocks certainly aren't perfect measuring sticks...not by a long shot.

But when there is that big of a disparity....there is something there, to be sure.

Also....One of Apple's greatest strengths is slowing feeding people the apple drug.

First, you have a $75 ipod. Then a $250 itouch. Then iPad....etc, etc.

Apple's loyalty continuum strategy is simply a piece of art.

Your stock analogy is completely baseless. Apple has about 900 million shares outstanding. Microsoft (windows), has nearly 8.4 Billion shares outstanding. So, price per share really does not have anything to do with anything. Profits would be a much better indicator of a companies financial health. But even that would not necessarily tell you which computer would serve your needs the best.

I was trying to keep it simple for him. Outstanding shares is a whole other ballgame. But yes, valid point. Lol

Anywho - Apple thriving, pushing the envelope, etc. Other orgs are trying to catch up.

I wouldn't say Apple is really pushing the envelope when it comes to desktops or laptops. Phone and tablets yet, but desktops not so much. They use high end hardware and have great quality control, but for the same money you can get a PC with similar hardware that's going to be just as reliable. Their OS is good but it's not mindblowing great or out of this world innovative.

As you eluded to earlier, it's their marketing and ability to get people buying into the "All things Apple" mindset that is really driving their sales. First comes the phone, then the iPad, then the iMac/Macbook. Starting small and working up versus working from the top down like MS. Brilliant.

When it comes to marketing right now Apple is cool, young and hip and MS is old, nerdy and uncool. Apple's ability to build that brand message is nothing short of genius.

With all of that said, for MOST people's needs which generally include e-mail, photo management and web surfing, a PC that is a fraction of the cost of a Mac is more than suitable. You can do all of those things just as well with a $500 PC laptop as you can with a $2,000 Macbook. What sells the Macbook is people's perception of what they need, and the way they want others to perceive them (young, hip, cool).

I agree a lot with what JZ just said and what others have stated. Apple's brand is off the hook, and many people buy Macbooks as a means to improve or justify their image. I've worked off an old, beaten, and battered PC the last 3 years and I'd put a lot of my video projects and photo work up against a lot of folks who are running much more powerful machines. Does a college kid really need a 2K Macbook to write papers? Methinks not.

That being said, my new iMac and software will be here Friday! My main reason for going Mac was like Dustin said, it's makes me more rounded and valuable. In the future, having experience with both machines and OSs could land me a job I otherwise may not even be considered for if I just stuck to PC. Plus, I researched and talked to a lot of folks who handle similar workloads as mine, and Mac was the consensus choice. We'll see.

For those who have switched from PCs to Macs, how steep is the learning curve?

Congrats on the purchase. Should work out well for you.

The learning curve isn't really too bad (almost non existent if you are at all computer literate). Adobe keyboard shortcuts start with the option instead of the ctrl key:D

You mention expanding your skillset. Are you planning to find a job through an employer or continue freelancing?

I paid a grand for my brand new macbook pro.

    Carry on though.

I paid $800, $700, and $600 for my three laptops prior to it (all of which had similar hardware to the macbook prior to being bogged down to dial up speed).
