OK this is my first deer season ever (better late than never I guess)... In Kansas I have both an antlerless and any tag. Should I go ahead and take a doe if she presents herself or wait for the bigger bucks I have shared in pics?

I'll shoot a doe as late as October 15th, after that they get free passes until late November. No sense in shooting off too many of your live bait resources lol

I always start my season ready to take the first mature doe possible. Always seem to have no shot or just finding yearling. Then similar to Billy, I hold off during the rut.

You should keep hunting enjoyable to yourself and shoot when you are ready. You will find out how disappointing it can be if you over think it. In the end you are out there to relax and enjoy the outdoors so hunt hard and let what happens , happen.

I know when I started out some of the biggest mistakes I made were to rush or force shots that today I would not do. Try your best to pick good clear shots and use your skill to make an ethical kill. Wish you the best of luck on your first year!

Well guys I can't contain my excitement but just wanted to share. My wife and I found out we are having a baby boy. I am ready to go get him a bow. Do you think it's too soon?

Congrats!!! Kids are certainly a blessing and a heart attack at the same time, we have a year and half old son and a daughter due Oct 30th. Which means maternity leave for the wife during the rut! LOL

Congrats Billy! Maybe we can get together and design a " Tree Seat" . Maybe an adapter where the car seat snaps onto your tree stand. I mean we can't miss the rut.

We can design a swinging car seat below the stand with a cry muffler that sounds like a doe in estorus LOL

My opening weekend attack plans are set in. It will be a black bear/deer combo. Approximately 5 mile pack into the Adirondack wilderness unless I can come up with a boat to use (likely a nucanoe) even then it's about a 5 mile paddle but could score some dinner on the way in and potentially see a few bear visiting the shore line which could change our hunting location plans. All will be video documented!!

Oct 1st my season starts I've been shooting a lot and feeling great. One stand is set, however I need to get into the woods to check three cams and hang two more stands. One in a known area, the other, will try something new. I would love to take a deer on the first day however, I've only done that once.

This is some serious stuff. Cool that you can do a combo type hunt. I've never done a paddle in. Best of luck with the plan.
