Maybe, I walked my climber out and went back to look, it started pouring so the blood (good blood) washed away. I'm going home to review footage then likely going back in the morning

That is awesome! Keep us posted and good luck.

I hunted hard for the opener today. Spent all but 1.5 hours of daylight in the woods. The weather held out and was misty all day but, no rain. Spent time in two different stands. Not even a tail. Dad and uncle hunted with me...no tails for them either. Was a great start to the season, minus the deer.

5 hours today, 2 hours last night. No results. Tracking a deer after it rains in a swamp might be the most discouraging thing I've ever had the misfortune of doing. No more rainy day hunts for this guy. [IMG][IMG]

I did get some footage, unfortunately everything leading up to the kill shot was good and the kill shot was garbage so that left me with even more questions. I'm fairly certain it was a perfect hit and I'm 90% sure I heard her crash but that swamp is ruthless.

Billy - Bummer to hear the end result. I'm not sure if you were tracking alone or not. It's not always an easy task, as you know. As a boost of confidence and reminder to you...same thing can happen with blue bird skies. Tomorrow is a new day. Keep your head up!

Just to add..I love how your screencapture says..."Something went wrong. Please try again"

3 people last night and 2 this morning. I am relieved knowing I did everything within my power to find her.

That is good to hear. Always makes you feel better when you put in that kinda of effort.

That really stinks, sorry to hear it. Hopefully it will not happen again! I've always struggled on knowing if I should go or not when it is raining.

    Dripper update:

First time using a dripper. I have made a small mock scrape in tall grass.
    -2 drippers side by side
-tinks dripper not impressed with scent seems to drip steady out of it and empties quickly
-wild(something) dripper seems to work better with the looped rubber hose

-changed card 4 times so far
-used active scrape that came with the scent dripper
-used a local buck urine for the refills
-refilled every time but today as the dripper was about half full and removed the tinks dripper
-scrape has not been touched since I started it and I have not opened it back up, but they seem to be hitting the area frequently.
-looks to be about 4 different does and a button buck checking the scent
-in all about 60-70 pics for the month and a half the camera has been up

ening weekend somehow has doomed me. Of course the events from yesterday and this morning. This mornings sit was magical. I bumped a deer, had a perfect sunrise, fog rolling, birds, crows, geese the whole 9.

This afternoon I thought I'd pick up my pride and head to the woods. It rained earlier and I saw a few deer on my way home. I gathered my gear and rain suit to go get settled in. Upon arriving to my stand I was soaked in sweat because my rain gear isn't exactly breathable, should've packed it in.

Phase 2, I got my hangers in and camera all set up. I turn it on and I get a warning message. "Cannot read battery" and of course my spare batteries I left home so they would be safe from the elements. I'm now out a 5 hour battery. I decided no big deal, I'll continue to sit.

Phase 3. Wait. As 550pm hits, it gets dark, almost nightly. The rain was starting and boom the first crack.of lighting. It looked like it would go behind me a ways, so I waited. Mistake, huge mistake. Not 5 minutes later it started downpouring. I mean straight buckets of water. I decided it was time to go. As I start packing up, lighting strikes about 40/50 yards down the hedgerow I was sitting on. The kids d of strike that blinds you for more than a brief second. I nearly fall out of the tree trying to get my gear gathered up.

Phase 4. The walk out. Just when you think it's over, I start walking down the corn field and the rain gets even heavier. A few more close strikes had me "pick up the pace" I near the end of the field and CRACK!!!!! Lightning hits the big oak tree I scouted when there was standing corn. My pace went from quick to jogging in a matter of seconds.

This has quite possibly been the most trying opening weekend of my life.

    Redo next weekend!!

Wow it's a good thing you didn't choose the oak to sit in!

It's supposed to warm up again

Went out tonight, really warm temps so everything was moving later, had a few does filter through at last light.
