Lung is the bigger target and will kill in less then 30 sec but a heart shot leaves a great blood trail and kills deer even quicker. I would go for the lung because its a bigger target. No matter where you shoot always pick a spot.

Hmm well Lung shot gives you a bigger area to hit, and I think I recall reading that lung shots give better blood trails.

But a deer can live on one lung if you only hit one, where as if you hit the heart you are guaranteed a kill.

I personally prefer a double lung shot. :fro:

A double-lung shot is critical. If you only get one lung, the deer can still run a long way and may not show a lot of blood. The deer will expire MUCH sooner if you get two lungs.

if you get the right broadside shot, you will get heart and double lung so it dosnt matter.

Low lung shots usually leave great blood trails as well as heart shots.

I want to center punch both lungs or at least aim there. Aiming for the heart is great but, pull the shot and its easier to hit the shoulder. We all know what happens there from recent threads. If you let the air out, they will go flat!

You can't hit the heart without hitting the lungs. The heart sits right between the lower third of the lungs. The lung has been removed on this side for clarity.

I have to agree with AT.

A deer must lose over 30% of blood volume to die from a heart shot. But a deer starts having decreased function from lack of oxygen almost immediately. I aim at the top of the heart, so if I'm right on I get heart and lungs and if I'm off a few inches in any direction I still get lung. Double lung is best.
