Andrew was meaning to tell you that I really enjoyed the blog post that you were mentioned on a couple weeks ago regarding the older gentleman who has been hunting over the food plot. Nice work on assisting them!
Had an albino buck under my stand yesterday morning at 6:50. Uploading the stealthcam video right now. Will post soon
He's not very big but I thought it was cool. Here is another video to show the difference with another small buck. His body size in the second video makes me think he is older. Maybe just bad antler genetics or it could possibly be due to being albino?
I was hunting in ewing which is in holt county. Ill try to get some pics I don't have any on my phone. I dropped the skull off today!
Sent a pm to buttonbuckmaster. Hopefully everything went well for him. I'm probably way to impatient with hearing back from people on here. Even though I don't know any of you personally. It feels the same as if a good friend hit a buck and waiting to hear the news. Good or bad. I don't assume either until I hear. The other problem I have is I'm really competitive which really shouldn't be what any of this contest is about, but I can't help it. We have a good chance of winning which I believe would mean we would have the same team next year. Seems like a good group of guys that hunt hard.
That albino is super cool! Never seen one from the stand but I have seen three in my life. Justin I am the same way. I have had one other team that I ended up in second or third so I would love to get first this year. I know that we have both of our bucks recently to add and I believe there is still a buck that wasn't counted earlier. Am I missing anything else?
Let two does walk this morning before heading in to work. It is suppose to rain in the morning so I finally get to sleep in. Cool temps moving in this weekend and all of next week. Maybe I can get some antler in my hands then.
Why is there an unaccounted for buck? What reason is there for holding back? I just want to make sure we don't lose out on it because he waited too long.
The buck was taken to the locker and waiting to get it back. He added pictures in the scorecard thread. Just needs to add the score for points.
Ok guys so I had some downtime at work today and went through our entire thread and made sure that everything is accounted for. I think we can use this list and add people to it as more deer are shot: Team 20 – Lung Busters • NEB Bucks (buck): 147 3/8 • Ryan A (doe): 50 • Whitecotton (buck): ___ • Whtecotton (doe): 50 • Illinibowhunter (doe): 50 • Scarps23 (doe): 50 • Mylsuhat (doe): 50 • Pasterandrew (doe): 50 • Jacob (doe): 50 • Born2hunt (doe): 50 • Mylsuhat (buck): 104 6/8 • Illinibowhunter (buck): 111 2/8 • Total: 763 3/8 The only thing that needs to be added in is whitecotton's buck which should put up over 850 pts.
Scorecard has been updated. We are in 3rd. 1-3 are within 6 points. We still have whitecotton's buck to add so we should still be holding first down. I pm'd whitecotton yesterday to see if he could get the rack back earlier? I know after you have shot your deer the team chat isn't nearly as exciting. I still like it, but I know it isn't the same as while your still hunting. Calling for 3-8 inches of snow here from tomorrow afternoon to Saturday at noon. I love hunting in the snow. I'm really excited. I'm positive I'll be seeing deer over the next couple days. Good winds, snow, stand is in the bottom of a valley and winds of 45 gusts today. Deer will pile into this valley in windy conditions and I can get in there with wind in my face. Wind is supposed to calm down tomorrow. Keep enjoying this time out there. Pretty soon we will be complaining about it not being fall. Good luck to those still out hunting.
I keep checking the team thread because I really want to win I obviously can't contribute any more points but I'm rooting for yall. I'll be doing a little duck hunting coming up before heading back to the deer lease in MS for the rut there. Our deer activity around December 16-Janurary 15 is the equivalent of late October - Mid November for the rest of the country.
Couple videos from last week This one here is just a bunch of deer I videoed from either the tree or driving around Here is the video from my hunts including the kill (which unfortunately is not caught on camera)
This will be a long post but I wanted to share this story with you guys. This is my oldest sons first year hunting. He is 7, I told him when he could pull a his bow at 30 pounds and shoot accurately at 15 yards then he could start hunting. This year he was able to do that. We started bow hunting together during the youth hunt. Over the course of the last month and a half we have had multiple opportunities and many good bucks inside of 30 yards but none close enough that I felt comfortable letting him release an arrow. In early October he hit a doe, but when we reviewed the footage you can see the shot placement was perfect but at the last split second the doe ducked and the arrow hit her high. just under the spine. She lived (I saw her a few weeks later) We continued hunting. With Gun season approaching I wanted to buy my son a rifle to hunt with. However, we have four kids and spending hundreds of dollars on anything other than the necessities (bills) Is out of the question. The an Idea hit me. I am left handed but my first rifle I bought when I was 14 is right handed. Those were the days before the internet, finding a left handed gun in my price range wasn't gonna happen. Unless you ordered new from the factory you couldn't find them. So my thought was why not take the stock off my old .308 and make a custom stock for it that will fit his frame. (I contemplated cutting the old stock down but couldn't bring myself to do it.) So I went out to the garage and started digging through some boards. I had some hard maple boards that I had cut off the farm about ten years ago, and a cherry board that came from a tree on the farm that my father cut in the 1970's. I took them to a buddy that is a professional wood worker. I had him joint them and glue them together into a block. From there I routed and chiseled out the interior of the stock then cut the rough size out on a band saw. Over time I ended up with a nice finished stock, I glass bedded the gun for accuracy and clear coated it to give it some shine! after I finished the gun I got it sighted in and ready for him to hunt with. This gun was always extremely accurate but that glass bed really took it up a notch. This thing will drive tacks. So I gave my son his first rifle, it was my first rifle and the history it has with our land and our family is really awesome! This brings us to Monday evening, his first official gun hunt. We got into the stand right after school, I had all four of the kids in the blind with us, they range in age from 8-1. It makes for a interesting hunt. at 4:30 pm a group of 15 doe feed into the plot at around 100 yards in front of us. I told him to be ready because one of them bucks will be following that doe group. 30 minutes pass and nothing. no buck. In disbelief I look way to the back end of the field, I can see horns. A buck was back there at 400 yards tending a doe. I was disappointed that they were 400 yards away. I told Micah (my son) lets give it a few minutes and see if something comes out down here. Nothing! So finally after some calculation in my mind on a aim point I settled on the on being roughly 6 inches low at that distance (I set it 2" high at 100 yards, which puts it at a zero of 250. ) I got my son on a stool, gun padded with my coat in the window and had him look to see if this could happen. It took what felt like 10 minutes to get on the deer, and him comfortable. just as he is on the buck, (I told him hold the cross hairs right on top of his back) The buck turns and faces us. So another 2 minutes ensues. Now I am looking through my bino's just watching the deer. I felt confident my son was gonna do this, we were able to walk through all the aspects of the shot verbally as he was setting with a good rest and steady aim. As the buck turned back broadside I said ok, you can take the shot when it feels good. 10 seconds goes by, then BANG! I see in the bino's the buck just drop, and white belly! I lost it with hysterical laughter of Joy that it had happened! It was either laugh or ball like a baby! lol The emotions that had gone into the last months roller coaster ride hunting with so many close encounters and ups and downs had just come to a stop! He got it done! I thought to myself, Since this boy came outta the womb, I have been waiting for this moment! As I reflected on it, I shot my first buck with the rifle 19 years ago November 16th, the same day! To be able to sit and watch my son succeed at something he pout time and energy into was awesome! to have him use the gun that my dad had custom made for my uncle 30 years ago, that I had bought from my uncle at 14 and gave to my son. That was priceless! Setting together as a family in a blind Praying and asking the Lord Jesus to send us a buck, then having it happen, and getting to set over that harvested deer, giving thanks together for the meat and memories, that's eternal! Here are some pictures of the process! the block squared and ready! first coat of clear- assembled gun- Our tribe! couple happy boys!
What a trophy Andrew and a story that neither of you will ever forget! Thanks for sharing that with us!
