This year I was thinking over my choices for bowhunting. I hunt on two main areas. One is right behind my house. Its about 10 acres of woods and another 40 of CRP fields. The other spot is much larger (about 40 woods and 100 CRP) and about 2-3 miles from my house. Behind my house has deer but to say it was loaded with them would be wrong. The bigger woods on the other hand is what I would call loaded with deer. Regardless of that I decided to hunt the woods behind my house just for the sheer convenience of it. Walk out the door and 5 minutes later I'm hunting. My brother in law is all set to hunt the big woods. Well just yesterday a logging company started showing up with equipment at the big woods. We knew they were gonna log it out but we thought it was going to be late winter before they started. Ends up they are ahead of schedule and are gonna start next week. Our bow season opens next Saturday!! My bil had to go back and take his stands down so the loggers wouldn't hit em dropping trees. Plus I think one of his is in a tree they are taking. Sure glad I decided to hunt my other woods. Bil is just gonna wait them out and start in after they are done but that will sure change the patterns back there. At least for awhile.
Not sure how lucky I am just now. Just came back from a walk through around my stand location and only saw one lonely track. Looks like I might want to do some last minute scouting a little deeper into the woods.
Man that stinks. Sorry to hear about that. On a good note, the deer from the woods to be logged may move to the smaller woods closer to you. How long are they going to be there? Depending on the type of logging they are doing it might still end up being a good place to hunt.
I agree, logging always make the spot better for deer...just depends how quickly. if they leave the tops it seriously can create quick bedding spots which can get hot!
