Does anyone know a "Lucky" Hunter, or is a "Lucky" Hunter? The reason I ask is not because of jealousy or too brag about my year, I ask because I know some lucky hunters and fisherman...wheres my luck. Two years ago a buddy of mine invited me to hunt his family's property that had not been hunted because it was a old tree farm. So, I didn't let that opportunity pass up. That year a let my buddy borrow a bow until he could afford his own. First day out for bow my buddy saw a 5 and a 6 point a dozen doe...I didn't see a thing. The last day of our hunt he shot a good body 5 point and I couldn't be more proud of a friend. The next year he allowed me to invite my cousin for the first time to go hunting. My cousin has never shot a gun other than on PS3 with his index finger. The property is flowing with luck, he shot a 8 point with a 12 gauge at 50 yds after only shooting the gun once o feel the kick. once again very proud of my cousin. Now this year my other buddy started bow hunting from the ground because he is a big guy so I turned him onto Barronet blinds. The first morning we went out he took the blind out of the box in the truck, went to his spot to set it up, and an hour later shot a nice 6 point..... Does anyone else feel like they know people like this!?!?
My brother killed a buck the first day he ever hunted. After sitting in the stand for a couple of hours he walked back to the truck. On the way he saw a buck laying just into the brush off the edge of the field he was walking. He walked right up to it and killed it at 5 yards. The buck was wounded and worn out from fighting another buck and didn't have the energy to run away. My brother thought hunting was too easy and never hunted again.
I wouldn't call it luck... Probably just in the right place at the right time! In all honesty, we ALL know a guy/girl like that.
Lol! It happens... I usually do all the work and someone else kills the big ones. This year I let a friend that had never harvested a buck hunt one of my stands. He sat for three hours and killed this one on his first sit. Not sure if he is lucky or not being he hunted 3 years before that and never had a mature buck in bow range. I just think my luck rubbed off on him though as I killed my buck from that same stand 10 days earlier on my first sit.
A person who goes out their first time and shoots a 5 or 6 point buck isn't lucky, he's impatient or doesn't know any better.
If that "luck" gets someone that never would have hunted otherwise into the great lifestyle that we all love that I say that is a good thing. The only thing that would bother me is if they would go on and on about all their time spent in the woods and how they put so much work in to it when they in fact really did not. The one thing I always try to remember is that someone that puts real time and effort in to something will always appreciate it more than someone who just "lucks" in to success. In the end I would say just be happy for your friends and keep working hard to achieve your goals, eventually you won't need luck to be successful!
My best friend took a buddy of his out during the Muzzleloader season a few years back. The guy had never hunted before so my buddy sat him in a spot near the truck just in case he didn't like it. 20 minutes into the hunt the kid shot a 162" monster. To me any successful hunt has some element of luck that goes along with it.
Now that I'm thinking of this more I one of those "lucky" people. The very first arrow I released on a deer was this year... That arrow ricocheted off a twig and hit the doe right under her ear... Dropped in her tracks. Extremely lucky it hit where it did and I was able to recover her. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It's true, there is a certain amount of luck involved in EVERY kill. But you know what they say, sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.
My first deer ever was a spike at 10 yds .....and I was very patient after not seeing a thing for multiple years, and bet your butt I knew better! l0lz
Um....you let your cousin hunt by guidance of you after shooting only one single time? Please tell me you're joking? I agree with the others....luck is definitely something that is undeniably involved in hunting. Luck can happen to anyone but those that consistently kill mature bucks are usually the ones that don't rely on it.
I'm not that guy. LOL. One year I decided to go trout fishing for the opener on March 1st. I drove 250 plus miles down to Bennett Springs in a blizzard. Not the smartest move in the world, but I have trophy trout on my mind. There are thousands of people that show up for the opener, and in the area I chose to fish, everyone basically does the same thing. First thing in the morning, they fish spin cast w. black and yellow jigs. The guy to my right pulls in an 8lb rainbow and a little later the guy to my left pulls out a 6lb rainbow. Me, I catch nothing but stockers. Oh well, still had a good time.
After 30 Min of shooting a gun, and telling him his finger is the safety I felt pretty confident him and I would be safe.
Sounds like me. When i started hunting the property I hunt now the landowner told me that he used to hunt and see 50 deer a day but he is lucky to see a couple deer all season. I showed up during gun season and I shot 4 deer including a 130" 10 (biggest deer hes seen) point and saw a 13 point. The following years provided days where i saw 10-20+ deer a day including one when I saw 40. Lets hope that guys luck doesn't run out soon.
