Well I use a harness just not a.life line. Also being a firefighter we do rope rescue trai king all the time. We are crazy about safety lines. I just thought strapping in was enough when I got.into the stand. So I short to answer your question. Ignorance, and stupidity.

Someone was watching out for you. That is a long fall! There is absolutely no reason for anyone to climb in a stand without at least using a linemans belt that comes with your harness when your feet leave the ground. I love the lifelines and have turned many people onto them. It just amazes me that people will spend $20 on scent sprays, detergent, calls etc but not a life line. Cheap insurance.

I am also a medic in rural NC. Lots of hunters but believe it or not, I can count on one hand how many tree stand accidents I've been to. And that's in a 17 year career. I can't count the accidentally firearm discharges I've been to in the woods though. Maybe there needs to be be even more awareness about that!

Just started using lifelines this year when I had a 10 foot fall of my own, I was taking a ladder stand down and as I undid the top strap, the middle ladder section gave out and bent in two. I rode the top a little ways and then fell flat on my back. I was blessed not to be hurt, there was a sharp rock sticking out of the ground that was about a foot to the left of my back. I probably would have been paralyzed...Lesson learned and now I am strapped from the moment I am touching the ladder

It was 5 years ago Tuesday that I fell 12 feet while hanging a stand. Broke my back and left wrist. Had to call an ambulance to come get me and while they were loading me up I had the rescue member call my fiancé. One of the worst moments of my life!

Glad your here to tell the story.

Safety lines are easy enough to even make if you don't want to or forget to buy one.

Honestly, there has been no better invention for the tree stand hunter than a lifeline. The ability to stay attached to the tree from the ground to the stand and back to the ground without ever having a second that you are not connected is awesome. I have always believed that the climb is way more dangerous than the sit and transferring from you sticks to your stand is the most dangerous point. If all you are doing is attaching to the tree once you have gotten into the stand, you've skipped the most dangerous part.

I have a lifeline on every permanent stand I use.
