IMG_1632.JPG IMG_1637.JPG IMG_1637.JPG I hit this deer really low. He ran 100yds and went down. Then got back up and acted like nothing happened. Then ran across a 4-500 yds bean field wide open. My thought is that he will live.

What was the blood trail like? How long was he down for and how much blood was in the bed? Where'd you hit him low?

If a deer runs for 100 yards then falls down, that is a sign that it is hurting bad. Probably a lethal shot. Those things are tough.

Hit was low but really close to front leg. He didn't bed, he was walking away slowly, I turned around to hang up my bow and he was on the ground when I looked again. He got up quickly. I did not go to that spot to look for blood. I figured as hard as he was running I would need to come back anyway.

I would usually agree. What about watching him run full speed for such a long distance? What do u think about the blood on my fletchings?

I was also thinking maybe it was a leg hit and he fell due to a broken leg but if that was the case, I don't think I would have gotten a pass through with blood on all 3 fletchings.

Will you be able to track in the morning?

And when he went down did he fall badly or just bed down real quick and lick his wounds or something?

I'd go and look at the blood where he laid down. Also what hair was on the ground? Brown or white? Was he carrying a leg etc...? I can't tell much from the dried blood on the arrow. I have seen deer run and lay down and get up again but ultimately die. I'd keep looking.

I did what it sounds like you are describing once to a nice buck and he lived. He had Meat hanging down and was bleeding good. I was hoping I caught an artery or something and he would bleed out. I backed out and came back 8 hrs later. Followed the blood into a bedding area where I bumped him. He was bedded down under a cedar. From the pool of blood in his bed you would have thought someone just slaughtered a pig. That was in October... Neighbor shot him that January. Things are super tough. He might live

Here's a vitals/circulatory system image to look at. There are some good arteries there you can hit so he bleeds out even if you did hit him low. Let us know what you find!

Are you sure that you hit behind the leg? Did you find any hair? Looks like it could be brisket. Arrow has wattery blood and with what you are describing it is very possible. I hit a deer there a few years ago and arrow looked just like this. Deer went 1000+ yards and lost blood.

I was 20ft up in a tree. The deer was broadside at 31yds. Honestly i backed out and left. I'll have to look for hair tomorrow. Did you ever recover that deer?

You can't look until after 3 PM today?

Either way you have to bring us along with you in the live from the stand thread to get as much help as possible.

Will you have cell service where you hunt? Take pictures of where he bedded down 100 yards out, close-ups of the blood and any hair found. The live from the stand thread is great for this exact situation. When you're in the heat of the moment sometimes you don't think clearly, and those who aren't out hunting have a clear mind and will send you in the right direction. Let's hope for a dead deer!

I would call in from work if at all possible

My guess from what little to go by you have a dead deer I don't think he would fall down on a straight up brisket shot.

I doubt you hit leg bone like you said you wouldn't get pass through like that.

What broad heads are you using and what do they look like now?
