I'm new to bow-hunting, I've heard some good and bad reviews about these scents during the rut. One being that James Valley Full Rut spooks dear. Can anyone shed light on these good and bad reviews. Any information can help me pick out one for this rut season. Thanks everybody, good luck.
Funny thing is I never have used doe pee, but decided to try it out the last couple days. in the last 4 days I only had a nubby come to it, even though several bucks have walked down wind. Well today I had a nice 8 come through at 1 pm. He hit the trail I walked in on and immediately snorted. I had sprayed some on my boots before walking in. He happened to walk by me at 25 yds but was really squirrel and I couldn't get him to stop. Last time I use any scents again. Like sota says go scent less imo.
I have tried a lot of them over the years. Waste of money. I will say that even if tinks worked 100 percent of the time I'd never give that company any of my money. Guy slips from a tree stand before he can strap in and Tink sent him a private message talking crap to him. Classy
I can't ever get any results with deer urine, but I also know those who have. I'd go scent less. Keep yourself and clothes as odor free as possible. Then go with maps, hikes and trail cameras to find the doe groups and bigger bucks.
tinks 69 has worked for me more than once I've had deer trail the drag rag from where I walked in to the tree I hung it in, might not happen every time but its always worth a shot IMO.
Exactly. Nothing is going to work 100% of the time. Whether you're looking at rattling, grunting, snort wheezing, doe pee, buck pee, a decoy or any other device meant to lure a deer in, it doesn't matter. If you get the right buck at the right time any one of those things may or may not work on him. Last week I had a big buck at 60 yards who wouldn't even look my way when I grunted, doe bleated and snort wheezed at him. Because it didn't work that one time should I never do it again? The same holds true for deer lures. No, they aren't going to work 100% of the time. But that one time they do work wouldn't you say it's worth it? They're relatively inexpensive and easy to use so why not at least try?
I have only really ever had much luck with one scent over the years and that was with Pete Rickards Indian Buck lure! I was able to harvest a nice 7 and 8 point with it and both times the bucks came in grunting and went right to the place I put it! I haven't been able to find it any where over the couple years but I am going to check Amazon maybe they sell it.
Only once have I had a mature buck come in to a scent. Last November I was using one of the James Valley Scents, I don't remember which one, and a heavy 8pt came in from downwind and just stood there. He stood there for maybe two minutes just looking for a doe, and then left. He never did come into range.
The first buck I ever killed followed in a trail of tinks 69 that I put down on my way in to the stand that morning. I haven't had any luck using scents since then.
I was walking in at first light running late one morning, I was dragging my tinks pad walking into my stand(I spray Tinks 69 hot shot on my boots also). I was coming up to a few scrapes I'd walk by each time to add pee to them and there was a 7pt looking dead at me standing in the scrape, well he kind of just walked off quickly didn't blow or run just a little fast walk once he seen me. I was thinking well there goes my hunt lol. I finally got to my stand just sat down and got settled in and sure enough that same 7pt walked directly down my tinks trail coming in grunting. Needless to say he didn't make it. Gotta love those 5 min hunts haha
