Mississippi's stats look similar to that, however when talking to the Dept. of Wildlife we were informed they changed methodologies in estimating total harvest. Could be the same with LA.
that is a pretty sound idea Tony. I would guess that had somethin to do with it. Here i am listening to a song about Katrina and i forgot about it! DOH
PT, I am not sure how much the hurricanes affected our deer herd. I know it affected our economy and therefore amount of hunters. I really believe people are trying to manage more than they ever did in history though. That could have a lot to do with number of kills declining. That, and a lot of people just can not afford to belong to a lease. Our numbers still suck!!!
Any regulation changes that started around 2004? Also, I would say a 1:4, kill to overall herd ratio is not that bad at all. Here in Virginia we have an estimated deer herd of 1 million. We killed 250,000 deer last year or a 1:3 kill to overall herd size ratio.
That is where the second spreadsheet I posted came from. It is all 2008-2009 stats. We Suck as far as deer/acre in my parish. (Grant)
Not sure what you are refferring to Jeff. (DPSM=Deer Per Square Mile?) If that is the case, NC sucks too.:p J/k Compared to other states it does suck.
