Louisiana Bow Hunters, when does the rut start here? I've heard it starts in Nov and goes for three months....that doesnt really narrow anything down. I've also heard its the week before thanksgiving and the week of Christmas? So what is it guys?
What part of Louisiana are you in? It vastly differs across the state. Typically the best rutting action is around Christmas. You will see some Pre-Rut activity in November, but the big guys like to pop out around the last week of December. That being said, in extreme Northwest LA, the primary rut seems to kick off earlier (2nd week of November) with a secondary phase around Christmas. Hope this helps.
If you are around Fort Polk, the last week of November, or first week of December should be the right time. I've hunted that area my entire life.
Good luck. Starting to see some pretty good activity. Grunted a 2.5 year old eight point this weekend. He made a scrape under my tree, pretty cool to see. I usually see more big bucks in the pre-rut phase than the rut here in LA. So many does, they do not have to chase very hard to find them another girlfriend.
