Pay off the current house, give it to someone for free, put a trust in each of my kid's names, save a few hundred thousand for their college. Then there's my list: buy a 500 acre wooded secluded property, build a dream house, put in a lake/pond and stock it, a few trucks, a few ATVs, a few guns, a few bows, a few stands, tractor and small farming equipment, big outdoor grilling and firepit area, basement wine cellar, a few cases of the finest scotch and a few cases of the finest whiskey. Then I'd buy as much property as I could about 1-2 hours away and build an off the grid cabin.
I'll admit, we do buy a lottery ticket now and then. But to be honest, our plan is to not win. Not winning 50 million is no different than not winning 500 million
It is extremely rare for me to buy a Powerball ticket. So rare that I think I have only bought 3 or 4 times in my life. But, hypothetically if I were to win, our school and community would be greatly improved. Family would get a one time check and they would know that it was a one time check, they better use it wisely. Once my daughter was through school, I think we would purchase a large tract of land and live as much off the grid as possible.
Build myself a house on 500 acres of AG/Hunting land. Buy my mom a nice 1 or 2 bedroom house so she can get out of her apartment. Buy my 2 brothers a nice home. Pay off my girlfriends parents home. Buy a cabin on one of the bigger lakes in northern MN - Leech lake, etc. Buy everything needed to go along with that cabin... Pontoon, fishing boat, jet skis, 4 wheelers, the works. Obviously would be buying all new vehicles and hunting equipment. I would donate a lot of money to our community. My friends would get a nice little check. I could go on and on and on.
We buy maybe 2-3 a year, usually when a group at work goes in together. If I didn't and my coworkers won I would kick myself forever. It's the only "gambling" I do other than fantasy sports.
