This year I drew a buck tag for a protected area hunt by my house. I will be hunting the week of 10/16- 10/23. I get to go in and scout the sunday before (10/10) here is a map of the section I will get to hunt. its 293 acres, 93 is woods the rest is ag fields. There will be 3 other hunters in this section that week. I already have some good ideas of where I want to start scouting but what do you guys think? The Red X's are the areas i plan to start with.

Will have anyone else hunted it before your group?

Is that a creek bottom in those woods? I would focus on that, should be some good crossing in there. Might want to check the ponds as well. If nothing else, there should be good trails leading to the water sources that you can then backtrack into bedding.

Scout the other group of hunters the 1st week they are in there. See how they enter and exit. Adjust. I'd almost go in on the fly without disturbing the area unless you feel like this place is so loaded with deer it wont matter.

Here is what I would do, if it was me hunting. I wouldn't step foot in that woods. I would find the lowest laying field, that is also most secluded from any roads or intrusion. It would also be great if off that creek also. Then when I was aloud to scout, I would just sit the field for the evening about 200 yards out and watch. Then when the bucks come out for the evening, take note of exact location. Then on first day of hunt setup in that exact location. If nothing shows on your scout day, then I would wait for your first day and go in mid day, skip the morning on the first day. I would walk that creek from down wind and follow as long as I had too, to cut a huge track. Then setup on that spot for the rest of the evening. That's how I go about a new property.

I’ve had people tell me to try to draw for that but never looked into it. May be 45 minutes to that area from my house. I hunted geese there years ago which was a lottery thing also You drew a blind and had to hunt there only. Fired a couple shots but nothing dropped.

I put a yellow dot by a nice funnel leading to bigger woods. You may want to look at that.

Looks like you have a good start in mind. I see one of the X is at a pinch point. Excited to see what unfolds for you. :tu:

The first group of hunters will be pulling their stands 10/10 and there will be no one in there between 10/10 and 10/16
