Was out in the garage yesterday doing one last check of all my hunting gear when I noticed that the freezer compressor kept kicking on and off. Opened it up and found a mess. I lost about 60 lbs of venison, 10 lbs of fish and a bunch of frozen veggies we put up this summer. Had this happen once many years ago and my home owners paid me around $8 a pound for the venison. After checking my home owners deductible I found that at best I might get a $100 if I turned it in. Not worth the chance of them jacking up my insurance rate for making a claim so I guess am SOL for venison until I can put one down now.. Wouldn't it be great if someone would come up with a alarm system on freezers so if they went out you knew it pretty quickly? Maybe a beeper that went off once the compressor locks up or something.
That sucks. Hopefully you caught it before it gets too rancid. I've had to deal with that before and it was horrible.
I there's a silver lining at least it happened jut before season starts rather than just as it ended. Sucks either way, but you have the next few months to restock.
Same thing happened to me a couple weeks ago! Sucks. Hate the wasted meat. Lost a lot of burger, some backstraps, summer sausage, etc.. Time to reload tommorow.
My god you lost a bunch of frozen veggies! Oh the humanity! At least you have several months of "filling the freezer" to go, with a brand new freezer to boot!
