Well after 5 years I have lost my lease due to a death in the persons family and ownership changing hands. The people I leased from were great. The price couldn’t be beat. Pretty well at a loss of what to do now. There’s plenty of public land around but it’s gonna be hard to go back to that kind of hunting... But if anyone is in SE Iowa and has something available or needs an extra to come on board for an existing lease, I am looking. Things seem pretty scarce on the big leasing sites. The only one close was 50 acres for almost $3000... really don’t know what those people are smoking..... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm really sorry to hear that. I sort of know the feeling, but losing a hunting spot in Tennessee doesn't compare to losing a good lease in Iowa. I hope things work out for you.
Damn, sorry to hear brother! Maybe there’s a silver lining in the cloud? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
As of right now no. The plan is to sell. It’s kind of a messed up deal. The person I leased from had rights to it since he farmed it, but his mom was the one who owned it. For some reason she left it to her daughter instead, and she just wants to sell it, and the person I leased from is pissed and refuses to buy it from her. So it’s going to probably sell to the neighbors, which I know, and could maybe then lease from them. But until the sell happens I’m off the property... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Wesley, you just might enjoy trying to find some spots on public land. Sounds like you have done it before. I'm headed to all new hunting grounds this fall. Im going to have scout in the summer here in Virginia which just plains sucks. Major heat, ticks, and poison ivy=hell. But I am going to do it because I love this crap.
That sucks man. Hopefully it works out. May end up with a better spot, never know. Situation your describing with the family happens alot down around here it seems. Family farms get split up cause most don't want anything to do with it and just see dollar signs. If there is one kid that wants to keep it more often than not they get screwed over. Crazy to think that's what splits up surviving family members but long ago my grandmother told me nobody will screw ya like family.
