Well, I'm off to the pound tomorrow to hope they have my dogs. My boys disappeared sometime last night, and I've looked all over God's Creation for them, and have no idea where they are. It kills me to think that something happened to both of them, but I can't figure out what the hell happened. They've been my buddies for 12 1/2 and 6 1/2 yrs, and suddenly both are gone. I pray I find them tomorrow. Gonna place a lost ad, but I'm not overly optimistic as they've never been gone more than a few hours before I was able to find them.
I've been there. On 2 different occasions while hunting, I was unable to retrieve my hounds. Once my male dog was missing for a week, before we found him. He had lost some weight, but was in overall good health. The other was a 12 year old female who was gone for 2 weeks. She had been out during an ice storm, followed by a heavy snow storm. My cousing saw her run across the road 13 days after she disappeared. Keep your head up and don't give up hope on them. Dogs will tend to stray, and if they haven't been picked up yet, there is still a good chance they will return home.
Sorry to hear that, but I'm sure you will find them...or the other way around. After all we can tell how spoiled they are! Gotta love those labs.
Thanks Guys, I'm off to the pound here in a few to HOPE I find them there. They've never been gone long, so I'm not optimistic that they will just show back up at this point as both are neutered, and running off isn't something that they've ever done in all the years I've had them.
looks like they got their ID on them so hopefully someone found them and will call you! hang in there
No such luck at the pound, they have my number if they see them or get a call about them. Ads in the paper and on craigslist, but I'm losing hope for them. Neither is overly "street smart," and the older dog wasn't in overly good shape, I could see him dying and Big Jake staying there with him and dying right next to him before he'd leave him. I'd almost wonder if someone didn't take them as their "range" wasn't very large, and I've more than covered it. Not sure how long anyone would want a dog that eats $100 worth of food a month, but he is probably the NICEST, LOVIEST dog I've ever seen, all the while being one of the biggest.
As someone who has lost a pet, even if it was only 2 days (as it was for me), it's a gut wrenching feeling. I'm pulling for your boys Doug. Hope they show up.
that sucks... ...I dont know that I would do. I have had to go out and find mine a time or two. I hate the feeling of uncertainty. The one thing I can say is keep the chin up and don't stop looking. Once my boy was gone a couple days. Then I came home and he was sitting on the back patio, smiling like there was no tomorrow. I truly hope you find them.
I hope you find them. My brother lost one of his mini wiener hounds for a week in the coldest part of winter(-20 at night) and he turned up o.k. I couldn't stand losing my hound either. good luck and please keep us posted.
Did they have micro chips? I ask because my lab took off once and someone found him, but didn't report it. They removed all identification and were going to keep him. I found out by chance a farm about 3 miles away had a new lab and I went to check out of curiosity and sure enough it was Ghille!!!! They tried lying their ass off until I told them to call the police because I'm taking my damn dog. Then I also made it known he had a microchip and the guys whole attitude changed on the spot. Can't trust anyone now days.
Thanks for the support guys, I'm gonna put out a few flyers in the morning, and try to keep some faith, but it's hard to keep faith when I know the older dog's health isn't the greatest, and I don't think the younger dog would leave his friend, even if it meant dying with him. I hate to think that I won't see them again, but I know that may also be reality. I didn't have either of them "chipped" as it never seemed like something I'd need to do considering they'd never really run off other than to a couple country neighbors to "visit." Both are neutered, and neither is purebred, therefore I'd never imagine someone would take them for anything. Not seeing them everytime I go outside the house or downstairs to do laundry or something just leaves an empty felling in my heart. You forget how much a part of your life they are until they are not there, and it's only been a couple days....
