For those that fly....how often does you luggage get lost? I fly a lot for work and now that I live in Texas, I fly even more to see family. I have had my luggage lost by Southwest three times in my last 4 flights with them. This past weekend when I went to Chicago was the best one yet. Let me set the story...... I flew to Chicago to spend time with my sons this weekend. (Don't jude. It's the best I can do right now in a terrible situation. It costs money, but I get there every other weekend and that is not enough) I get checked in and am boarding the plane. I only had a small carry -on suit case, as I was only staying 3 days. I get to the door of the plane and start searching for a seat. As those who fly Southwest you know it is not assigned seating. One of the flight attendants meets me up front and says, " We have ran out of room for overhead storage and we need to check your bag." No problem, but for some reason I had a bad feeling about it. I didn't have an identification tag on it and there was no legit check tag on it. He assures me and several people behind me that it will be a the checked luggage area. No big deal. We land in Chicago after stopping in KC. I go down to checked luggage to get my bag and rental car. Guess what? It doesn't show and I was not the only one. My question is...how do you lose a bag that was already on the plane. Most of the time it is my fault and I have made a last minute check in and my bag didn't make it there in time. That I can take, but not this. Bad part was that I had no name tag and no check in tag. By Sat. morning they had still not found it and I was giving up hope. I had already called a company to meet me at the Dallas airport on Sunday when I got back to make me a car key so that I could get home. I was angry beyond words. Saturday evening they showed up at the doorstep with my bag. I was amazed they found it. I just couldn't wrap my head around on how a bag that was on the plane ended up not making my flight. Anybody else?
I had luggage lost for three days while on a Business Trip to Colorado. Ever since then I try to cram my stuff into a carry on or at least enough to get me through. The wife on the other hand likes to pack enough for a month whenever we travel, but she has been lucky.
I fly a LOT for work too, but usually only for 3-5 day long trips. I make sure to pack light, and then will UPS or FedEx any additional stuff I might need for tradeshows, etc. I can usually get 3-5 days worth of clothes in a carry on, so I almost never check stuff unless it's a tradeshow booth or something like that. Out of nearly 30 flights last year, they didn't lose anything on me (knocks on wood), but most of my flights were direct. I have a new territory this year that will cause me a lot of lay overs, so I'm curious if they will have more issues with lost baggage.......
I've flown 10 or so times now, some vacations but mostly hunting trips...Never had a lost bag. Take that back, I remember now that on the way home from Alaska, the cooler with the 6 deer skulls in it didn't show up and i thought I was going to have a conniption! Luckily it showed up about 7 hours later and they delivered it to my door by midnight.
i fly a lot for work as well and i just make sure i have at least one pair of clean draaaws with me. that being said 90% of my flights are all charters, but i have gotten to know a lot of staff and proceedures. what they say a lot of the time is that its like any other job.... you got some people who just dont care and stuff gets messed up. sorry to hear that and pretty cool you going to visit your boys! i dont think anyone has a right to judge on grounds for that!
