Man this was unbeleivable! Talk about jaw dropping impressive from one of our finest! I ended up in their direct line of flight for the whole show. They must've been about 400 feet above us at times. I can actually make out the helmets if I zoom in on the camera. what a fantastic outing.
sorry, had to add this one to show how low they flew by. look carefully in the tree tops, there are actually 4 planes in this group.
In my next life I am coming back as one of those pilots. That is my fantasy, to fly in one of those some day.
i went to a air show one time in fargo. tghe blue angels are simply amazing! they also lifted a jeep off the ground with a blackhawk helicopter and dropped it from two hundred feet which was really cool.
Hank those are awesome pics bud. I have seen them twice at our local freedom festable over the Ohio river. Last time we were at DQ eating burgers after the show and four of the pilots walked in to eat. I had bought my youngest son a poster with the planes and it now sports four autographs beside the planes
Now that was must've have been a real treat for your son. That's probably every guys dream to fly one of those things. Yeah, they were flying for about an hour and passing overhead everytime. One of the times, one came in & went straight above us, so we where looking right into the engine. unbelievable.
what was really amazing is how they come in real quiet, & then their jet sound would follow a few seconds later. The loudness was deafening. Sure glad that we're not on the recieving end of those things in war.
Cool pics Hank and that reminds me that they are bringing the Waukegan Air show back this year so it should be a lot of fun.
I love seeing those guys; I'll never forget watching the Thunderbirds when I was probably about my oldest son's age now... I got all their autographs after the show too. I always love it when they do the "sneak attack" from one side of the airstrip while you're attention is diverted to the other to show how quickly and quietly they can come in on you.
Last yr out there at the show, I took my kids up for a ride on a Vietnam Era Huey. Best damn money I've ever spent for a ride. It was awesome. Those air shows are always a great time.
