I just found out my mom goes for open heart surgery on the 17 of next month. I'll have to burn my vacation time to be with her during the whole process. I usually take the last week of season off to hunt the rut.. but at this point, it isn't looking too good for that. I might get a day or two of it in though. Man I'm bummed out.
Prayers up for your mom. Puts priorities in a better order doesn't it. Hunting seems so small in comparison.
Hunting isn't everything man. There will come a day when you will treasure that week spent with your mom.
So sorry to hear about your mom. I hope that the surgery is a success and that she has a speedy recovery. I think you'll look back years from now and be happy that you spent the time with her. And when you do get out in the woods, Good Luck!
Thanks for all the well wishes guys. You're all right, you get a whole different perspective on your priorities when something like this occurs. I'll get a few days in the woods during the magic weeks that are coming. Mom's surgery isn't until after the last week of season. I have plenty of vacation time, just don't want to burn it all in case I need it later on. Good luck everyone and stay safe out there.
Moms are pretty cool, hope she will be ok, Look at it this way i had a stint put in one day and went to a concert the next night...and drank beer, doctors have got a pretty good handle on heart surgery. My father had a quad bypass and was up walking the next day and out in 9 days and felt and looked 20 years younger. Best of luck.
Best wishes to your mom for a speedy recovery. I've missed some tree time due to some family health problems from time to time, puts things in perspective. It's not a big deal in the grand scheme of life.
Praying for your mom! My dad has one chamber in his heart beating in D-Fib and had surgery. They shocked it twice and started to beat normal. He came out of surgery fine but now after about a week the chamber went back to beating to fast. Not sure what they are going to do but my dad is really worried. It will all be ok for both of us! I am hitting the woods when I can also so knock them dead if they move. I have one down and hope more to come.
Just wanted to give you some good news. Most, definitely not all, patients going through heart surgery do very well (also depends on comorbitities, or other stuff going wrong) I've had patients that went in for a CABG, MVR, AVR, etc (those are heart surgeries) and were up walking doing fine in a day or two, and were released to go home in 4-5 days. While this is not always the case, I hope it is for you. Which surgery is she having done if you don't mind me asking, and do you know if it's minimally invasive, robotic, etc?
Vendetta, she is having aortic valve replacement surgery. The Doc's called us Sunday to explain the whole deal to my brother and I. They have to do the classic zipper for her situation. She had pneumatic fever as a baby and it damaged this valve. She's been doing fine until recently as age finally caught up with her. It's not an emergency surgery or anything as they said she could wait until spring. She figured since winter is coming and she'll be holed up in the house, she might as well do it now and recuperate watching the snow fly.
Best wishes to you, your mother and family. You know all it takes is a minute to change your season around. Sneak out when you can with your best foot forward and you will do fine. Good luck.
Thank you everyone for all the well wishes. I truly appreciate it. I'll get in all the hunting I can prior to her surgery. I'm pretty confident in a couple of these setups I have right now that I can at least get a shot opportunity in the next couple weeks. One stand in particular, the one I killed my last two nice bucks from has my name written all over it this season!
